Mary Brady walks for PTAA

-

If you have had any dealings with the Pioneer Association in recent years you will have heard of Mary Brady. Mary has been involved at every level of the association but was also our manager in head office for several years. She has travelled the length and breadth of the country for our Gradam Awards and devoted huge amounts of time and energy promoting the pioneer message of temperance.

At the moment Mary is recovering from a hip replacement operation and we wish her a full and speedy recovery. In the meantime, she has decided to put her recovery walks to good use and the following fundraising page has been created https:// www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/11399703_mary-bradys-walks-for-ptaa.

While we are in the situation where we cannot hold our usual socials, dinner dances, church gate and flag day collections, this is a great way we can all give something that will help us keep spreading the message of temperance and moderation throughout our world today through our pledge in honour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Please donate but also spread the word about this fundraiser and encourage your friends and colleagues to donate if they can. It would be a great tribute to someone who has always put her heart and soul into the Pioneer Association.

This time last year we were cancelling all our activities for the foreseeable future. Little did we know then, that we would be more or less still in the same situation this Spring time.

The good news is that we are now working in the Zoom meeting era and planning to make the most of online meetings and gatherings.

Our Pioneer Central Council delegates met last Sunday, 14th March online from the four corners of Ireland and at local level, things like Pioneer Diocesan Masses can be viewed online.

At present on www.churchservices.tv/togher the Novena in honour of Matt Talbot can be accessed. This has been running now for 4 weeks and the final two nights are on Monday, 22nd March and Monday, 29th March at 6.30pm.

There will be an online get together/recreation night from 7.30-8.30 on Friday, 26th March to which all pioneers are invited. For further details on how to join that Zoom gathering email sorchaol@gmail.com or call 086-3642619.

Our thanks to Radio Maria for their monthly Pioneer Hour which is broadcast on the first Friday of every month. They always give great coverage to our Pioneer Magazine and include lots of interesting bits and pieces about Pioneers over the years, among other things. It has kept the Pioneer flag flying while other projects were not viable.
