Rathcormac Community Council monthly report

-

The Rathcormac Community Council meeting for March 2021 took place fully on Zoom on Monday, 15th March at 8pm. Bob Seward, chairperson and host, welcomed all to the meeting and proceeded with a busy agenda.

Conor Gurrin read the minutes of the Febuary meeting and these were agreed and signed.

Jonathon then gave a brief financial report. However, our funds are being depleted all the time now as Covid has scuppered most of our fundraising. As a result we will need to put on the begging cap soon to rectify this.

Graveyard: There is a buildup of rubbish from the graves (old flowers etc.) which needs attention.

Village green: A 3D model of this is in the hall with Conor. Bob met with the planners recently. There are a lot of extra requirements to be met, some of these expensive, such as ecology studies etc. The grass there will soon need cutting. We still need to get a mower for our small tractor for this.

Footbridge: Batt reported that there is a build-up of silt there partly blocking the bridge water flow. This needs attention.

Autumn show: Geraldine wonders whether this should go ahead in September. It was thought to be most desirable Covid allowing. So all you green finger people get cracking in the gardens in anticipation of another big show by Geraldine and co.

Running Track: Bob is to meet the contractor to finalise details about this as that plan needs to be finalised soon.

Cork Co Council Development Plan: This is now at draft level. Rathcormac features prominently in this updating of the plan. Our towards 2030 Plan is featured, as well as our potential for tourism with walks etc. The population is now over 1,500. Twenty four percent of the houses in the village (town really) are rented. Bob now has a full copy of the draft plan, which can be seen by anyone who requires to see it.

Cork Co Council: The development of the southern end of the village is to proceed shortly with CCC granting in excess of €300,000 for this work over the next while. We thank Brendan O’Gorman and all the councillors for all this proposed development. Also, thanks are due to C.C.C for roadworks in Garrynacole, etc.

Playground: Gerry continues to lock the playground each night and Teresa and Ger Lane opens it each day. We thank them for their work there. Signs we put up there to limit the use of the playground to under 12s were pulled down. The Co Council will replace these. Gerry and Teresa would welcome some help there.

Community Park (The Field): Bob reported that due to Covid the contractors are continuing to be held up. The work needed to finish the current job is about two weeks. Hopefully this can soon begin again. Bob continues to work on the Sports Capital Grant for the next phase of development.

Allotments: The list there is now full and we have put a waiting list in place. Some broken glass there from a glass house needs cleaning up, so be careful there.

CONDOLENCES

These were recorded to recently bereaved families in the district.
