Club Limerick Draw now open
The Club Limerick Draw is now open for anyone who wishes to get involved. The draw is a key source of revenue for the club and given the current restrictions due to Covid-19, we cannot hold our usual fundraising events. Prizes include: €10,000 cash prizes and exclusive star prizes. Another great benefit of joining the draw is accessing a 10% discount for the likes of Intersport Elverys, Woodlands Hotel Adare, Original Irish Hotels and many more. The club have had several winners throughout the years which is always great to see. GAA NATIONAL DRAW TICKETS
The club are continuing to sell tickets for the GAA National Draw. Prizes include €2,000 cash, a brandnew Renault Clio V and All-Ireland hurling and football final packages. Selling tickets for the National Draw allows the club to raise some much-needed money and gives the ticket buyers the chance to win some brilliant prizes. Galtee Gaels GAA Club were delighted to learn of the success of Cian Hogan, Anglesboro, in securing a set of jerseys for the AnglesDan McCarthy, secretary Galtee Gaels GAA Club, holds an antique bottle in his left hand which he discovered during maintenance to the boundary fences at O’Mahony Park recently. boro National School team. Cian, a gifted artist, designed the jersey and entered it into an ID Sports ‘Design a Jersey’ competition. His entry was one of five short listed for a final decided by a social media vote. As covered in last week’s issue of The Avondhu, Cian was just pipped at the post by an entry from St. Flannan’s College, Ennis but the organisers, Kildorrery based ID Sports, kindly recognized Cian’s huge poll and awarded a set of jerseys. Cian, a stylish and energetic Galtee Gaels footballer, had a key midfield role with Galtee Gaels under 14 team in their exciting 2020 campaign which brought them all the way to a county final last September. Well done Cian and thanks to all our Galtee Gaels readers who responded to our call to vote for Cian.
UNDER 14 SOUTH C SHIELD FINAL 1997 Galtee Gaels 1-9 Banogue 1-9
The very large crowd of Galtee Gaels supporters departed Knocklong on the evening of Sunday, 14th September 1997 in a mixed mood, buoyed up after a fine display of football, yet disappointed that Galtee Gaels had let Banogue off the hook. Galtee Gaels were one point ahead, Banogue were on the attack, the referee Pat Creed was keeping his eye on his watch about to blow the final whistle. A Galtee Gaels player touched the ball on the ground. Banogue accepted the gift and scored the equaliser. No doubt the relieved Banogue contingent felt that their display with the amount of possession they secured during the a keenly contested final deserved the draw if not the win. The very strong Banogue side brushed aside Galtee Gaels in the opening exchanges and Mike Jones in goal brought off two top class saves as Banogue raced into a threepoint lead. When the siege was lifted Chris Gallahue and Willie Walsh won control at midfield and exposed the Banogue defence. With good support from Derek Gallahue, Michael O’Donnell and Tom O’Mahony, Galtee Gaels secured a five point lead. Chris Gallahue’s goal was the pick of the scores taking the ball from defence to attack and with an exquisite fourteen yard lob, caught the keeper out. Galtee Gaels experienced Banogue’s forceful play before the break when they reduced the margin to three points. The pressure on Galtee Gaels mounted after the restart with an exchange of points. Mike Jones was confident in goals with the full back line of Richie Fitzgerald, Johnny Cleary and Sean Lane on top of their game. But Banogue had got to grips with their opposition and gave Galtee Gaels little scope for attack. Diarmuid Walsh however got and took a rare opportunity and extended his side’s lead to four points. A blood injury to Chris Gallahue needed attention and Banogue got through for their goal. When Gallahue resumed, his influence was apparent and Paul Moriarty’s efforts were at last rewarded with two points on the trot and a three point lead. Just when it looked as if Galtee Gaels had weathered the storm the final minute drama played out with Banogue’s equalising goal. The replay took place on 19th September and Banogue won on a 2-2 to 1-1 scoreline.
