Rank outsiders Erins Own created history by winning the senior county hurling title, when they defeated hot favourites Na Piarsaigh in a thrilling decider at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

Although the decisive score, the only goal of the the game, by full forward Barry O’Neill late in the first half set the tone, the performanc­e by the majestic Brian Corcoran, who scored 0-10 of his team’s total, ensured the Sean Og Murphy Cup was destined for the Glounthane parish.

The Magpies bridged a gap of 26 years after they defeated Carrigtwoh­ill in the divisional junior A grade football championsh­ip final at Watergrass­hill, in a low scoring dour contest. The only goal of the game, scored by sub Paul Moynihan inside the last quarter, proved decisive.

Fr O’Neills annexed the divisional junior B grade football championsh­ip title after they defeated Castlemart­yr’s second string selection in the decider at Killeagh.

Bride Rovers 2-8 Dungourney 0-8

Bride Rovers won the divisional section final of the county junior B grade football championsh­ip when they beat Dungourney in the final.

THE INTERCOUNT­Y SCENE - CORK REGAIN MUNSTER SHC TITLE Cork 1-22 Limerick 3-11

After defeating Kerry by 0-22 to 0-6 in the first round, dethroning reigning champions Tipperary 2-12 to 1-12 in the semi-final, Cork regained the Munster senior hurling championsh­ip title when they defeated Limerick by 0-22 to 2-11 in the provincial final.

After they annihilate­d Clare by 7-11 to 2-7 in the semi-final, Cork and Kerry drew 0-11 to 2-5 in the Munster minor football championsh­ip final at Killarney.

In the replay at Pairc Ui Chaoimh, Kerry dominated proceeding­s and looked likely winners until Jimmy Smiddy scored a brace of goals in the closing stages to give the Rebels a two-point victory.
