GALBALLY AFC COMMENCE WORK TO DEVELOP CLUB SITE
Galbally United AFC have begun work on developing their grounds as they begin a campaign to generate funds to grow the community amenity.
The club previously ran a successful fundraising campaign and the money has already been pumped straight back into the facilities at Henebry Park.
Work commenced last week on a footpath around the field and there are also plans for fencing - it is the latest improvement to take place at the progressive South Limerick club, which already boasts two soccer pitches and an Astro Turf.
Sean Mullins said they are now campaigning for further funding streams.
“Further to our successful fundraising campaign at Christmas, we can now start to develop the facilities at the club. Phase one is to put in a perimeter footpath around the pitch and also to put in place a base for dug outs for the field.
“We are very lucky, to have two excellent fields and an Astro Turf pitch also,” he said.
The club has almost 50 adult members and a giant underage membership of 80 players.
“We are looking to grow the club even further, coming off the back of successful victory in the Tipperary Division Two Shield.
“We have had real success at underage, there’s a talented team, we have high hopes for them. It can be a struggle for a rural soccer club to get numbers and keep them. We have a really strong underage scheme, and we are keeping lads involved in the game as best we can. With that aim, we are also going to start our under six nursery.
“It is all about doing everything we can to get as many involved and keep them involved.
“After the success of our campaign, we’d like to thank everyone who got involved and there will be an opportunity for sponsorship and details will be posted up on social media pages.
“We’d ask all local businesses to try and get involved with us in any way they can, be it through sponsorship of signs and the opportunity will be hugely beneficial to the running of the club,” Sean added. Once Covid restrictions are lifted, it is hoped to start up the Under 6 academy.
Sean said any interested players and any potential new coaches are more than welcome. The club will provide full support and training to any potential coach, so no experience is necessary.
