Willie Cody and Maurice Tobin – legends!

-

Well, there was a bit of excitement for the club on Wednesday, March 31 when Willie Cody and Maurice Tobin completed the event for which they have been training for a good few months. The aim was to run 40 laps of St Colman’s track in order to raise money for a very worthy cause – Breast Cancer Research.

It was also Willie’s 50th birthday so it was quite fitting that he should run 50km to celebrate this milestone! Claire Lomasney also ran with them for a time and completed a marathon distance of 26.2 miles, so very well done to her as well. Several of Grange Fermoy AC members turned up for the occasion, of course being mindful of social distancing, and some of them ran a few laps with Willie and Maurice to give them some encouragement. To date, Willie has raised a good few thousand euro for this worthy cause, and if anyone wishes to contribute they can do so online.

Marina Seymour had organised a couple of medals for Willie and Maurice and presented them at the end. Happy birthday Willie. 50 years old and 50km stronger, was the inscription for Willie, and of course Maurice’s could only say ‘Maurice the Legend’! So well done to everyone on the day, and here’s hoping that neither of them will do anything daft in the near future!

There is still no group training, but we’re hoping for some good news next week, when we may be able to train together again, especially as the evenings are getting longer and brighter now.
