BRIDGE BY THE RIVER IN FERMOY
Let’s face it, the lockdown has been very difficult for all of us, some more than others, but everybody has their own story to tell. However, here in Fermoy Bridge Club, we are continuing play three times a week – Mondays and Thursdays at 7.30pm and Tuesdays at 10.30am.
The advantage of virtual bridge is that you can play anywhere in the country or world from your own living room and there is no doubt, it is a wonderful way to pass a couple of hours and keep the brain active and entertained.
Fermoy has a very proud Bridge history with many of our members winning national and international competitions over the years. Mrs. Mary O’Mahony, who was a wonderful bridge player and won many competitions all over the country. That tradition is being carried on by present day members and two of our novice members (playing less than two years) Karen and Liam Magnier, have won several competitions at this level and this month won in Malahide, Clonmel and Galway. As a club we are very proud of their attainments, it is wonderful to see how they have embraced the game and are thoroughly enjoying all their wins. But they are not the only members of the club winning competitions – congratulations to Catherine Slattery and Eileen Kelleher who won the ‘Open Pairs’ at the recent Clonmel Gala.
