PLANS PROGRESS AT GLENROE CNS
A year on from the announcement of the opening of Glenroe Community National School, Glenroe Ballyorgan Community Council is so pleased that current enrolments will see an additional teacher in place from September 2021, with several other important plans also being progressed.
With enough pupils hitting the criteria for school transport, plans are well advanced for the refurbishment and modernisation of the school building for occupation in September 2021. Also, the provision of after school services at - and transport to - Coolfree Kids in Ballyorgan is something that will prove hugely beneficial to parents.
April 19th is set to see work undertaken by Limerick City and County Council, where the installation of a footpath and flashing lights will act as safety measures for users of the school.
Chairperson of Glenroe CNS Working Group, Mary Hanley O’Brien, stated, “Great progress has taken place since Minister McHugh announced a year ago that Glenroe Community National School would open. Glenroe CNS is at the heart of the community and we thank head teacher, Julie O’Connor, for her dedication to the role and also Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board as the school patron.
“It’s an exciting time in Glenroe CNS - we look forward to supporting Muinteoir Julie, the pupils and parents in Glenroe CNS in all the positive developments that are taking place,” she said.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
On August 27th, 2020 the gates to the school in Glenroe opened to welcome 8 bright, energetic and enthusiastic pupils. From the very moment they walked onto the school grounds they have been a wonderful credit to their families and to the wider community in Glenroe, Ballyorgan. The first few days in their new class were filled with exciting visitors, treats and even a little media attention.
“I am delighted to be part of the establishment of this school and to welcome future pupils on their first day in Glenroe Community National School,” had teacher Julie O’Connor enthused. “It is an historic development and I am delighted to play a part in this. I am enjoying the opportunity to work with the local community, the parents/guardians of the school children and the ETB to enable the children of Glenroe and Ballyorgan to be educated locally once more.”
“Our pupils are at the centre of everything we do in Glenroe Community National School and they are involved in every element and aspect of school life. They have used their voice to help us design and create our school crest. We have tried to incorporate elements of different crests in our school community and have based our design on the previous primary school established in Glenroe ‘Scoil Mhuire’.”
The school, set in picturesque East Limerick, was recently gifted a beautiful bird house and feeding station. The local community ensures that everyone is aware of the nature that surrounds us and affords us the opportunity to pause and notice our setting.
Glenroe CNS welcomes the value of partnership with the school community. The collaborative practice already embedded in the school culture allows pupils to experience the wide ranging skills and talents the school community has to offer. Thanks to the school working group and community council, Glenroe CNS has its very own fairy village, something that each pupil has added to in recent weeks.
