The late John Lyons

- - Paddy Ryan

The death occurred peacefully on April 6 at his residence Labbamologga West, Knockanevin, Mitchelstown of John Lyons. The late John, in his 74th year, had been in ill health for 17 years which he bore with great dignity and bravery. He had been employed at Galtee Foods for 33 years.

He was a great family man. Along with his wife Nora (nee Kiely), they loved Country & Western music and used to attend dances up to his illness. He worked hard to look after their young family.

Never one to complain, John was a very religious man. His funeral was held in private in accordance with Government guidelines and HSE regulations regarding public gatherings (Covid-19). His requiem Mass took place in St. Bartholomew’s Church, Kildorrery on Thursday 8th last, with burial to Labbamologga Cemetery. Many people lined the route via Marshalstown, Mitchelstown, outside the Galtee Foods site, Ballyarthur, the Lougha and Knockadea Cross, as the cortege made its way to his final resting place in Labbamologga Cemetery.

To his wife Nora, sons Thomas, John and Donal, daughters Julie, Mary (Walsh) and Brid (O’Keeffe), sons-in-law Dave, Martin and Shane, daughters-in-law Catherine, Denise and Marie, cherished grandchildren Emma, Rhiannon, Micheál, Liam, Tommy, Amy and Orla, sisters Margaret, Fay and Mary (Millar), brothers-inlaw, sisters-in-law, carers, nephews, nieces, relatives and a large circle of friends, we tender our sincere sympathy.
