Planning submitted for Gortnahown communications mast
A planning application has been submitted by Eircom for the construction of a 21 metre high mast in Gortnahown, Mitchelstown.
The application is for a free-standing communications structure, with associated antennae, communication dishes and ground equipment at the site. Planning, for a similar structure to be erected in Millstreet, was made on the same date.
The development locally will form part of the Eircom Ltd existing telecommunications and broadband network, with the company confirming that the purpose of the mast is for ‘enhancement of 3G and 4G coverage.’
“To ensure its customers benefit from the best possible mobile connectivity eir is transforming its mobile network. This transformation programme will enhance mobile voice and data (broadband) service throughout Ireland. Over the last year, eir has actively developed new sites to enhance and resolve mobile coverage blackspots across every county in Ireland. The development in Gortnahown, Mitchelstown will form part of the eir mobile network designed to enhance mobile service in the area,” the application stated.
