Travelling Head Lad Patrick shortlisted for dedication to racing
The finalists and shorlisted nominees of the Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards of 2021 have been announced. The awards are in recognition of the many employees who work with horses and in studs around the country, honouring their dedication and commitment to the horse racing industry.
Among the 56 shortlisted nominees is local man Patrick Murphy. From Waterpark near Fermoy, Patrick holds the position of Travelling Head Lad with successful trainer Jimmy Mangan in Conna. Success from the stable over the years has included winner of the 2003 Aintree Grand National, Monty’s Pass.
Mr Mangan is extremely proud of Patrick’s nomination, and attested to his hardworking demeanour.
“I was glad that he made the list, and he’s as good a man as I ever had”, Jimmy told The Avondhu.
Mr Murphy will receive a €100 gift courtesy of the Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards in recognition of his work in the industry.
Staff from other local studs have also been recognised, with three nominations amongst the 24 finalists coming from Limerick alone.
Agathe Lebailly, Stud Groom with Kilfrush Stud, Knocklong, Co Limerick, has been nominated for the Leadership Award, while in Kilmallock Michael Lyons, Second Man at Mount Coote Stud, is amongst 3 nominees for the Dedication to Racing and Breeding Award. Also representing Limerick is Nicholas Cope, Stud Groom with Ballyphilip Stud in Croom, who is nominated for the Newcomer Award.
David Ryan, general manager of Kilfrush Stud, was very proud of Ms Lebailly’s nomination.
“Agathe is a hugely important member of the team, extremely conscientious and hard-working, and we’re tremendously proud of her. We wish her all the best in the competition, no matter what she wins”.
The Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards recognise and reward the hard work and dedication of stud and stable staff, acknowledging the huge contribution they make to the Irish racing industry.
JUNE 30TH AWARDS ANNOUNCED
There are 11 award categories, with an overall Irish Racing Excellence Award recognising an exceptional contribution to the industry. Winners will receive a share in the €85,000 prizemoney which is divided among the winners, finalists and their employers. The Newcomer Award winner will also receive a trip to Dubai. The winner in each category will receive a specially commissioned trophy by sculptor Ani Mollereau.
The awards will be broadcast on Racing TV at 11am on Wednesday, June 30th.
