Public asked not to share videos and images online of fatal M8 collision in Co. Tipperary
Gardaí are appealing to members of the public not to share video footage and images that are circulating online of a fatal traffic collision that occurred on the M8 this week.
The two car collision occurred on the M8 in County Tipperary on Monday, June 28. Shortly after 4pm Gardaí and Emergency Services were called to the scene on the M8 southbound between Junction 6 Thurles and Junction 7 Cashel North. The driver of one of the cars, a man in his 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the car.
The driver and sole occupant of the second car, a woman in her late 30s, was removed to Cork University Hospital. Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The deceased has since been removed to the mortuary at South Tipperary Hospital, Clonmel and the local coroner has been notified.
Forensic collision investigators were requested to examine the scene and traffic diversions were put in place. Significant traffic delays were reported at the time and a number of Garda units directed traffic, as work continued to clear the crash site.
Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are particularly appealing to any road users who were travelling on the motorway at the time with camera footage (including dashcam) to make this available to them.
