Injured biker confident of participating in run

- JOHN AHERN

Araglin native, John F. Kenneally, spoke this week about his determination to be ready for a fundraising event he is helping organise.

The popular community activist sustained a serious leg injury recently while carrying out repairs to a track machine.

“I was lucky in a way, if the metal bar had hit me in the head, I’d be a goner, it penetrated my leg and left me in a lot of pain. Thankfully, I’m on the road to recovery and all going well, I’ll be able to take my place in the bike/tractor run which is on 18th July”. A joint fundraiser for Araglin Carnival and the Air Ambulance, John, who hasn’t lost his sense of humour, reflected on an incident that could have been life threatening.

“I very nearly needed the Air Ambulance myself after the accident, it has been to Araglin a couple of times this year and does fantastic work. When I was asked to help out in organising the run, I didn’t hesitate, The Captain (carnival chairman, Jeremiah O’Brien) is a good friend of mine and I didn’t want to leave him down,” John said.

A long time member of local biking group, ‘The Flash Mob’, John is determined to be front and centre at the forthcoming run.

A RELIABLE AND HARDWORKING VOLUNTEER WHO NEVER LETS THE SIDE DOWN

The ability of Araglin to consistently organise and successfully host a variety of events is frequently remarked upon. None of this would be possible without high calibre volunteers, who time and again, answer the call and rally to the flag. John F. Kenneally is typical of the loyal, tough and determined individuals who help keep communities going.
