Golf classic success for community development group

- JOHN AHERN

Stating the obvious, Covid19 restrictions have impacted severely on the ability of clubs and voluntary groups to fundraise. Staples such as race nights, table quizzes, dances, church gate collections, flag days, door to door collections, etc., have all fallen by the wayside. And yet, bills must be paid, commitments met and accounts settled in full.

There was good news for members of Castlelyons, Coolagown and Britway Community Development Group last week, with the successful hosting of a badly needed golf classic in Fermoy Golf Club. James Ronayne described the event as well organised and very successful.

“The committee put in a massive effort and individuals along with local and regional businesses gave very generously, it’s vital that we get revenue streams flowing again,” James said.

While acknowledging the role of all the event sponsors, James said the substantial donation from main sponsor, Zeus, was critical to the golf classic’s financial success.

“I’d like to publicly thank everyone who contributed to the golf classic, people dug deep to assist us and in Brian O’Sullivan and Zeus, we had a very supportive main sponsor,” he added.

BEAUTIFUL DAY, BEAUTIFUL SETTING

Last Friday was a perfect day for golf and participants of all abilities teed off in aid of this great cause. Fermoy Golf Course was in magnificent condition and was favourably commented upon by all. Following the ‘serious’ business of driving and putting, patrons were treated to a tasty meal.

LOOKING FORWARD

The cash injection from last Friday’s classic will enable community activists to press ahead with important development work - work that will ultimately benefit every resident of Castlelyons, Coolagown and Britway.
