Hillwalking Radio Group back in action

- MARIAN ROCHE

The locally based mountain safety organisation, the Hillwalking Radio Group, was back out again supporting the community for the Slieve Everest Challenge in Glenbrohane on Sunday, June 20.

"This was our first duty this year due to Covid-19 restrictions, but it was great to meet and greet all those familiar faces. The full complement of 10 volunteers turned out, covering the day in crews of two over the duration of the event," Denny O'Dwyer of the Hillwalking Radio Group told The Avondhu.

The team recently spent €500 on a new shelter/First Aid tent, which proved to be very useful on the site. The group are hoping to purchase a new enclosed trailer to store and transport all their equipment and First Aid gear, so if you can help in any way, please get in touch.

A special thanks to the organisers and the hillwalkers who supplied them with refreshments and beautiful cakes. Don’t forget to mark your calendar for Hillwalking Radio’s annual walk, ‘The Ramble’ to Darby’s Bed in Galbally on Saturday, August 28.
