The Credit Union Summer Webinar took place online on Saturday, June 26.

Speaking with The Avondhu this week, chairperson of the National Supervisor Board and member of the Board Oversight Committee, Fermoy man Joe Tobin, said he was ‘delighted’ to launch the new look newsletter at the webinar.

The webinar involved a half-day of training for members and volunteers and a variety of speakers spoke to those in attendance. Brian Corr, Department of Finance, spoke to members about the withdrawal of banks and whether this posed a challenge or opportunity to Credit Unions. Irish journalist Conor Pope, who is an author and broadcaster at The Irish Times, also spoke to members.

In the evening, members in attendance were treated to some relaxation with psychotherapist Carmel O’Connor, who led a self-care session for hard-pressed volunteers entitled ‘Coping thru Covid’. Trainer Tom Martin closed out the day with a training session in effective communication in Credit Union Governance.

Mr Tobin stated that it was a ‘very successful day’ and thanked all the speakers, as well as all those who attended.
