High demand for cattle at Corrin Mart

Traditionally, here in Corrin Mart, these few weeks are a time of smaller numbers, steady trade with the beef price coming under pressure from the factories; but this year, in every possible facet of life, is not for conforming to tradition!

Huge numbers of cattle are on offer at the moment more akin to September than to June. And good thing too … demand is extraordinarily high so the increased numbers are very welcome indeed.

Across every band of weights and breeds the trade has increased steadily for all cattle. Good weather, ample supply of grass, strong beef price and buyers unshackled from beam are insuring that demand from all over the country remains very high.

COWS

Increase in numbers this week met a red hot trade for all cows.

Store cows: 400 to 550kgs making from €1.45 per kilo to €2.00 per kilo.

Heavier cows: 550 kgs+ making from €1.55 per kilo up to €2.16 per kilo.

Limousin 555kg €1,200; Friesian 780kg €1,290; Friesian 670kg €1,080.

BULLOCKS

As mentioned already, much larger sale and a super trade for all bullocks.

Light stores: under 350kgs made from €1.65 per kilo for plain Friesians up to €2.82 for Continental bullocks. With AA/ Hereford types making from €2.12 per kilo up to €2.50 per kilo.

Medium stores: 350kgs to 500kgs starting at €1.60 for Friesians up to €2.70 per kilo for Continentals. AA/Hereford bullocks made from €2.08 up to €2.32 per kilo.

Fwd. stores: 500 to 600kgs. The plainer Friesian started at €1.68 per kilo up to €2.50 per kilo for AA.

Heavy bullocks: 600 kgs+. Good demand for heavy bullocks making from €2.00 up to €2.56 per kilo.

Limousin 326kgs €920; Friesian 380kgs €750; Hereford 495kgs €1,100; AA 550kgs €1,370; Limousin 730kgs €1,880.

HEIFERS

Very similar trade to last week’s lively trade.

Store heifers: under 400kgs made from €2.02 up to €2.40 per kilo. AA/ Hereford averaged at €2.08 per kilo.

Butchers heifers: 400kgs+. These type heifers made from €2.05 up to €2.40 per kilo, with AA/Hereford averaging at €2.10 per kilo.

AA 510 kgs €1,230; Limousin 627kgs €1,490; AA 400kgs €940; AA 350kgs €820.

CALF SALE

Our calf sale is now on Tuesday’s at 11.30am. Strong demand for all calves. Hereford/AA Bulls €165 to €340.
