Rathcormac Community Council monthly report

-

The Rathcormac Community Council meeting for June 2021 took place fully on Zoom on Monday, 21st June at 8pm. Bob Seward, chairperson and host, welcomed all to the meeting and proceeded with a busy agenda. Conor Gurrin read the minutes of the May meeting and these were agreed and signed.

Jonathon gave the financial report. He again noted that our funds are being depleted all the time now as Covid has scuppered most of our fundraising, while we have major projects to complete.

Village Green: Bob sorted out the problems with the environmental section of Cork County Council relating to our planning application for the green development and Innovation Centre, so that we can complete our planning for this major project. He also met with Brendan O’Gorman and the architects. The Part 8 Planning was got so we are ready to roll on the start of that development. €600,000 has been allocated to this so it is hoped work will start there in early July.

The first phase of this will involve developing the area from the barrack to the school. A path will be put inside the old school wall and the road from barrack to the school will be widened, so in September the route to the school will be much safer for parents and the children. We thank CCC and Brendan O’Gorman for all their work on this project. We still need to move or put underground the bring centre bins in that area. The architect is working on this so hopefully a solution will be arrived at.

Car-Boot-Sale: A meeting of car-boot-sale took place on Thursday night to decide when we might be able to open up. RCC had invited that committee to meet in the community park so at that meeting it was hoped we may be able to start back on Sunday, 1st August with a sale every four weeks after that. We may then move into the community park. Watch this space.

Area Development Plan: We need to have a special meeting to go through this County Development Plan. This is now at draft level. We need to respond to this soon if we have any submissions to the plan.

PLAYGROUND

There has been some damage done again in this area to signs and the metal fence. Cork CC may close this up all together if this continues so we would appeal to parents of the youths involved to please act to stop this problem. The opening and closing rota for this is working well and we thank all involved. The park there needs cutting. We will work on that.

Community Park and Sports Hub (The Field): Bob reported that the contractors are back there and have made great progress. The tarmac of the road and car park the road lighting has been completed and the walk way is in a very advanced state. The quality of the work there is of a very high standard and this phase 2 should be completed in a week. We are working on grants for phase 3 and this will take some months so we may be able to open the park until this phase is about to start, so people can get a feel for the enormity of the overall project. The entrance from Quarter Lane is being worked on also.

ELECTIONS & AGM

Like 2020 we will need to postpone these to later in the year.

ALLOTMENTS

The season is now in full swing. Our thanks to Jim Manley for again donating the field for this 2021 year free of charge to RCC.

CONDOLENCES

These were recorded to recently bereaved families in the district.

NEXT MEETING

This will be on Zoom on 19th July at 8pm. Stay safe everybody, keep with the Covid rules for another while, look after your neighbours and hopefully disruption may soon ease.
