JUNIOR B CAMOGIE LEAGUE St Catherines 2-3 Enniskeane 1-10

St Catherines were away to Enniskeane in the 2nd round of the junior B camogie league played in beautiful sunshine on Sunday, June 27 last.

Enniskeane were quick out of the blocks and had 1-3 on the board by the first water break, Annette Fitzgerald replying with a point. A much-improved St Catherine’s team after the water break took the game to Enniskeane. Sarah Barry scored a point from play before Annette Fitzgerald added a goal after a goalmouth scramble. Enniskeane did reply with 2 points and led at halftime 1-5 to 1-2.

Both teams were evenly matched in the 2nd half. St Catherines worked very hard with sisters Lucy and Sarah Barry joining up in midfield and Chloe Kearney and Hazel Sheehan doing very well in the Saints’ rearguard. Enniskeane managed to score 3 points, but a Caoimhe Galvin strike ended up in the net leaving us 1-8 to 2-2 behind entering the last quarter.

The girls tired a bit in the last quarter but fought to the very end. Annette Fitzgerald added a point to which Enniskeane replied with 2 of their own leaving the home side victors in the end by 4 points, 1-10 to 2-3.

Well done to our very young U16 team who beat Aghabullogue last Friday night in their first league match! Great start to the season.

Our U14s played their second league game on Monday night at home v Aghabullogue and what a performance it was. An outstanding battle from start to finish. The girls battled right until the final whistle and never gave up. It was such a joy to watch on a beautiful summer’s night. Final score St Catherines 2-3 Aghabullogue 2-3. These girls will play Castlemartyr in the third and final round of the county U14 league. Date to be confirmed.

Our U12 team had a ferocious battle on their hands last Saturday in their third league game away to Tracton. There was a great display of skill and teamwork on both sides. The support for the girls from the sideline was fantastic. It was a great challenge for them. We just came out on top against a very strong Tracton team. Final score St Catherines 1-1 Tracton 1-0.

U10s were in Youghal on Saturday morning. Matching Youghal’s big numbers we were able to make three teams and the girls enjoyed the continuous play. They played very well, and teams were evenly matched. It’s great to see the progress these girls are making as the weeks go on and see the confidence building.

20 U6s travelled to Castlelyons last Saturday where they had great fun. They are a great bunch of girls and are enjoying the matches. Sometimes the excitement is almost like playing in an All-Ireland.

Well done to Ally Mulkerrins and Sophia Fitzgerald who made their county last Saturday on the Cork U14 A team in Castle Road v Limerick. Ally played full forward and Sophia fullback. Full-time score Cork 5-11 Limerick 0-6. In the months ahead these girls will continue to develop within their club and county.

Cúl Camp is taking place this week. Cúl Camp offers children a healthy, fun and safe summer outdoor activity. 100 eager children turned up on Monday morning. They have been enjoying the activities and the weather has been very kind. Well done to all the organisers, especially our camp co-ordinator Martina O’Connor.
