U16s off to a winning start for their league campaign

-

U14 CUBS

Fermoy Cubs played against Aghada in the first round of the league in Fermoy on Friday, June 25. Fermoy had 20 girls tog off for the match. Fermoy started off well but we didn’t take our chances. Aghada got the first two points. Fermoy won their kick out and with some nice team work travelling up the pitch we scored a lovely goal. Fermoy started to dominate the game and added a few points to the score board. It was 1 goal 2 points to 2 points in favour of Fermoy.

The second half started and Aghada got a goal in the first few minutes. The game was level. With some great defending from both teams going into the last quarter it was still level. With the last 15 minutes left of the game Fermoy got stuck in and our forwards added 2 goals and 2 points to the score board. Our backs played brilliant football and kept Aghada scoreless in the last quarter. Fermoy won the game but it was a hard win but well deserved. Well done to all the girls involved.

U16

Great start for our U16s as we recorded two wins in our opening league games. First up for the girls was the visit of Lisgoold to Fermoy GAA main pitch on Tuesday evening last. This was a very evenly matched game, on a lovely evening for football. We held the lead at half time, but Lisgoold rallied in the second half, with our girls showing great resolve to hold out for a victory on a scoreline of 6-8 to 5-7.

The girls travelled to Cloyne on Friday evening to play the locals, again on a nice evening for football. We played very well in the first quarter and were six up at the water break. However we left our concentration slip and allowed Cloyne back into the game and trailed at half time by 1. However the girls played some super football in the second half, and won comfortably in the end on a scoreline of 2-16 to 3-5.

A great start to the campaign which is what the girls deserve for their dedication to training over the past number of weeks. We now look forward to games against Rockbán, Cobh and Erin’s Own over the rest of the summer.

JUNIOR

On Monday our juniors opened their league away to Glanmire. They played with great heart throughout and lost out through tiredness at the end, losing by 5 points, 3-11 to 3-6. The work rate and effort in all these games has been brilliant and once we have everyone back training now after the exams we can look forward with confidence for the summer ahead.

SENIOR

We’re back in action! Lots of games these days, three in the last week. First up our seniors played Aherlow (Tipperary) in Lisvernane. This was our first game of the year and we got off to a great start winning on a scoreline of 3-11 to 2-8, the workrate throughout was great, with the ladies showing great heart and determination. Our backline held firm inside, while our midfield and forward line pushed on working the ball up with some great football shown on the night. On Sunday the seniors played Douglas at home and won comfortably in on what was a very tough day for football.
