League defeats

-

In what was a busy weekend for some of our players, results did not go our way. Hopefully as the injuries start to clear up, we will be in a better position and get a few valuable wins under our belt. On Saturday evening a very young div 3 side lost out to Clyda on a score of Clyda Rovers 1-15 Ballyhooly 0-9. Clyda started strongly and raced into a 1-3 to 0-1 lead inside the first 10 mins. Ballyhooly settled with points by Emmett Riordan, Gearoid Roche, and Tommy Sheehan to leave the half-time score 1-9 to 0-5. The second half was more evenly matched. And in that period we had points from Gearoid, and an excellent point from distance from Richard Lombard.

Ballyhooly team: Shane Murphy, Micheal Hess, Tom Crowley, Tommy Barrett, Dan Cooney, Colm Crowley, Darragh Whelan, Tommy Sheehan, Emmett Riordan, Cian O’Mahony, Richard Lombard, Gearoid Nyhan, Rob O’Gorman and Gearoid Roche. Subs introduced Jimmy Kelly, Adrian O’Driscoll, Jonathan Kelly, and Barry Geary.

At midday on Sunday our div 1 team made the short trip to Killavullen for another hurling encounter. Ballyhooly again lined out without many regulars thus giving an opportunity to younger players to stake a claim. We started with plenty of possession but didn’t convert possession into scores. Killavullen played well against the breeze and lead at the break by 0-7 to 0-5. The Ballyhooly first half points came from Barry Johnson, James Roche, Diarmuid Linehan and Dan Roche.

Killavullen started the 2nd half well and extended their lead to 4 points before Ballyhooly clawed it back to 2 points entering the final few minutes. Resolute defending from the home side kept Ballyhooly at bay, however a good finish to the net from Gearoid Roche after a ball broke out from a goalmouth scramble put Ballyhooly ahead by 1 point as the game neared conclusion. With the final play of the game Killavullen created a one on one chance and left substitute keeper Shane Murphy with no chance with a fine finish to take the spoils on a score of 1-12 to 1-10. The main talking points were the two goals in the last minute, which produced a pulsating finish to what was a relatively uneventful game until then.

Ballyhooly team: Pa O’Connor, Dan Cooney, David O’Brien, Jeff Gowen, Eoin Twomey, Sean Linehan, Seamus Roche, James Roche, Emmet Riordan, Dan Roche, Diarmuid Linehan, Gearoid Roche, Cian O’Mahony, Jerry O’Connor and Barry Johnson. Subs introduced Shane Murphy and Tommy Barrett.

LOTTO

There was no winner of the lotto last Friday night and the jackpot is now €5,000. The numbers drawn were 6,13 and 31. The 5 lucky dip winners of €20 each were Johnny Cahill, A Woods, Ballylongford, Co Kerry, Orla McCarthy, Clodagh O’Connor, and Annette O’Riordan. With the re-opening of the country this would be a nice time to be a winner! Any profits made on sale of lotto tickets goes towards the upkeep of the facilities. And remember if you are not in you can’ win!

Due to current restrictions we would encourage as many as possible to use the online facility at Clubforce; alternatively, tickets can be purchased in the shop or your usual seller. A big thank you to all who continue to support the lotto.

JUVENILE GAA

There is plenty of action happening with for our younger member in hurling, football and LGFA through our Ballyhooly and Ballycastle juvenile sections. Can we ask that all supporters continue to follow the Covid guidelines.

COVID

With the weather hopefully improving, can we ask that all our members and our community please continue to follow the guidelines set out and keep Ballyhooly and the community at large a safe place to live.

With all teams in all age groups now back on the pitch and training, can we ask that people remain vigilant in the fight against Covid. Can we ask that everyone using our facilities continues to follow HSE and Government Guidelines around the return to play.

Members of our club will continue to monitor the activities in the community field and ask everyone young and old to follow the guidelines. We all want to be Covid free and back out playing our national games as soon as possible, and want all our friends and relatives to be able to share in the enjoyment that this brings.
