Youths reach league final

-

The youth team continued their good recent run with a 3-0 win over Castlebridge on Saturday to qualify for the final of the league where they will play Bandon. They led 2-0 at half time before adding a third in the second half to secure their place in the final. This will take place on Saturday next in St Marys Park at 4pm and we wish the lads the best of luck in the game.

The seniors began their Keane Cup campaign with a 3-2 away over Kilworth last week with the goals coming from Eoin O’Neill, Dominis Wojtas and Steve Quinlan. The juniors drew 1-1 at home to Midleton with Sean O’Connor on the scoresheet.

U12 GIRLS

The Fermoy girls played their 2nd game in the Summer Cup on Thursday last against a very spirited Macroom side.

Fermoy got off to a dream start with 2 early goals but Macroom got themselves back into the game with 2 well worked goals to level the scores. Like in their last game this seemed to ignite the Fermoy girls, with Amyra Lavery who was in fine goal scoring form again tonight, scoring straight from the kick off after a powerful run. Fermoy added more goals before half time but can thank goalkeeper Ruby Mae Walsh for being ahead at the break following a number of great saves. Sarah O’Connor, Aimee Kearney, Sofie Doyle and Katie McGann added more goals in the 2nd half to run out winners in the end.

Some great performances all around but special mention to our debutants Lily O’Callaghan, Ellie McCarthy, Niamh Collins and Moya Weldon.

Fermoy travelled to Inishvilla on Saturday for their final group game of the Summer Cup. The home side dominated the early proceedings but the Fermoy defence well marshalled by Aoibhe Howard kept them out. Fermoy grew into the game and the lively Aimee Kearney was always a threat up front. Fermoy’s goalkeeper Ruby Mae Walsh continued her fantastic form from Thursday night’s game to keep the score 0-0 at half time, making a number of great saves, including a 1 on 1 which seemed to be a certain goal.

Fermoy started the 2nd half lively and went 1 up through a brilliant finish by Amyra Lavery following an excellent run down the wing and cross from Aimee Kearney. Fermoy’s defence once again kept Inishvilla out as they searched for an equaliser and we went 2 up following a great break and finish from Kearney. Ruby Mae made a number of great saves in the final stages to earn Player of the Match for herself and wellearned 2-0 victory for Fermoy.

We had 16 players in the squad and with everyone getting the same playing time on the pitch everybody contributed to the win. That’s 3 wins from 3 in the group stages for Fermoy who also top their group. We now wait to see who we play in the semi-finals.
