ARAGLIN CONTINUES TO PACK THEM IN

- JOHN AHERN

The biggest drive in crowd to date made their way to Araglin last weekend to be entertained by Peter Burke, Derry Kennedy, Martin Kearney and the legendary, Art Supple.

A pleasantly warm afternoon made conditions ideal for country and Irish fans, who travelled from throughout Munster to sample Araglin’s now famous drivein format. They weren’t disappointed as this talented quartet served up fantastic fare to a lively and enthusiastic attendance.

125 cars paid in, with patrons also digging deep to assist Bumbleance - as a result of the public’s generosity, €900 was raised for the children’s charity. Chairman of Araglin Community Hall and event promoter, Tom McCarthy, was understandably delighted with last Sunday’s outcome.

“Following feedback from our last drive in concert, we were quietly confident of spreading the word even further and attracting another large crowd. Once again, the weather was wonderful and those who travelled really seemed to enjoy the occasion, which is what it’s all about; this type of event doesn’t just happen and I must thank my fellow committee members for the time and effort they put in,” Tom said. TEAMING UP WITH T.R.

The dust had barely settled in Araglin Community Field last Sunday evening, when it was announced that another big attraction in country and Irish circles, T.R. Dallas, was bound for the townland of Barnahown in south Tipperary. Concert promoters were able to tell us that T.R. will team up with Dermot Lyons on bank holiday Monday, 2nd August for more top class entertainment. While this is taking proceedings up another notch or two, organisers feel they’re on a winner and want to press home their advantage.

CREDIT DUE TO ALL CONCERNED

Event promotion brings with it a variety of potential banana skins and even pre-Covid, there was no shortage of challenges. It says something for the energy, enthusiasm and effort of organisers in Araglin that in the teeth of continuing Covid-19 restrictions, a small committee from a rural community can put on a show that’s bringing considerable joy and much needed relief to music lovers from throughout Munster and beyond.
