Post Covid ‘Picnic in the Park’ for Castlelyons
After over a year of isolating, cocooning and lockdowns, Castlelyons Community Council are now in the process of organising a ‘post Covid’ celebration, writesKatieGlavin.
‘Picnic in the Park’, which is hoped to go ahead at the end of summer, will see an open air summer concert go ahead on Sunday, August 29.
Speaking with TheAvondhu, James Ronayne of Castlelyons Community Council, said the free concert is being planned as something for the community after the long battle endured with Covid-19.
“We just thought for the end of summer, it would be something nice for the community,” he said.
The ‘Picnic in the Park’ is to be inclusive of all ages, clubs and associations in the parish of Castlelyons, Coolagown and Britway.
According to Mr Ronayne, the event is to feature free entertainment and music, and it is hoped that a number of local acts will participate.
While it is noted that ‘ Picnic in the Park’ is subject to the continuing reduction and control of Covid-19 cases, it is expected that the majority of the population should be vaccinated by this time.
With no entry charge and everyone participating for free, Mr Ronayne notes that there may be a raffle held to cover the cost of insurance.
Members of the public are invited to bring their own picnic and food with them, although Mr Ronayne notes that a chipper will also be available on site for those who do not.
Currently, the end of Augist event is open for suggestions and for those with ideas or seeking to participate in the community event, contact can be made via castlelyonscommunitycouncil@gmail.com
