JOHN PAUL II AWARD

Congratulations to Rose Murphy, a student at Loreto Secondary Fermoy, who was presented with a John Paul II Award at last weekend’s 7pm Mass. The medal was presented by Bernadette O’Connor, the diocesan coordinator for the programme. It is given to young adults who volunteer to complete actions for the Church and society and compose a reflection paper about their Christian faith. The next meeting of the group will be on July 18. Contact Seán Murphy ycwkillavullen@gmail.com for details.

Killavullen Art Group are generously sponsoring the refurbishment of the floor of the Nano Nagle Porch at Killavullen. Natural 4-inch tiles will be used to create a Jerusalem Cross design in the floor.

Killavullen Farmer’s Market will take place again Saturday, July 24 the at 10.30am with a range of products from locally grown veg, handcrafted baked goods, breads, jams, chutneys, cordials, smoked salmon, fresh raw milk and yogurts. It is wonderful that the tunnel has now re-opened and is operating a one way system through it. More stall holders are attending and new ones have joined too. It is one of the oldest markets in Ireland, located at the birthplace of Nano Nagle. The market has spent a lot of time working out best practice in the current Covid-19 situation, consulting with the HSE and relevant authorities. The organisers would also welcome any tips or advice you may have for improvement or adjustment to how it is run in the current climate.

POSITIVE

The return to training and matches is a very positive and real sign to the children of our Parish that they have done the right thing during lockdowns and restrictions. The hard days of being home schooled and away from friends and family has paid off. Staying apart has finally started to bring them back together. It brings great hope to us all to see a return to games for our young people.

To hear young people laughing and chatting, the pure and utter delight upon meeting friends again is a most precious and welcomed sound. It would soften the most hardened of hearts. The young people have done us all proud during the course of Covid-19. It is great to see the pitch gates opened and the pitches being used once again. Best wishes to the clubs. Thank you to those who give up their time to train and mentor the teams at all ages, especially this now with so many guidelines and safety procedures to adhere to. It is appreciated greatly.

FEELING UNWELL?

If you are having symptoms of illness or health concerns it is as important as ever to make sure you look after your health. Please ring your GP surgery and you will be advised on what to do. There is a concern that people are not attending GP’s as they are worried about contracting Covid-19. The best thing to do is ring your surgery and you will be looked after in the safest way.
