Lismore Tidy Towns plan ahead

-

Last week Lismore Tidy Towns held another one of the outdoor meetings for members at the CE base West Street. This meeting helped to draft plans in terms of work and projects for July and into the Autumn.

We will continue with Monday evening and Wednesday morning work for July and then take a small break before heading into Autumn work. Reminding people on the community litter rosters to please check when you rostered. Workwise the Lismore Tidy Towns work team and its CE workers did a big job on an area on the Tallow Road, the planted areas at the entrance to Beechgrove housing estate was weeded and dug over, sweeping was done at Church Lane housing area and at the footpath running along by the canal. We ask people reading this column who operate a roadside business to sweep the footpath outside your property daily, keep it clean and litter free. Thanks to those who do that regularly.

All in Lismore were delighted to see the “Sold’’ sign going up on Lismore House Hotel and we in Lismore Tidy Towns look forward to its refurbishment and reopening. Accommodation for visitors has been a real problem in Lismore in recent years so hopefully the reopening of the hotel will encourage more people to visit and stay in Lismore which will also have a positive effect on other businesses in Lismore town.

Lismore Tidy Towns sends its sympathy to George Greenslade and his family Hospital Lane Lismore on the recent death of George’s wife Kay. Kay was actively involved and George presently is in the community litter roster on Hospital lane and Station Road. Rest In Peace Kay.

ECO TIP OF THE WEEK

Green fingers? Grow your own fruit and vegetables:

You don’t need a big garden to do this. All kinds and sizes of containers can be used in small spaces, on window sills and balconies. You simply need the container, soil, compost, light and the patience to wait for it to grow into something! Growing your own reduces air miles, helps you to eat more healthily and cut food waste
