Strong trade continues in Corrin
These next few weeks are traditionally the sales that are the smallest of the year. But, in so many ways, this is anything but a traditional year. Again this week in Corrin Mart, numbers were huge for this time of year. And these numbers are wonderful to see. For so long, with rings closed, all we had was cattle and a lively trade to entertain us!
But now, Corrin is returning to the busy hub that we missed for so long. With so many changes involved around lifestyle nowadays, the importance of the mart in the agricultural fabric cannot be underestimated. And for it to be busy at this time of year is so welcome to see. Yes, masks are mandatory, social distancing too – but loads of buyers are filling the rings, sellers no longer have to drop and go, the restaurant is open for takeaway.
These, plus the trade being so extraordinarily good, ensures smiles being hidden by masks - for the most part! - around Corrin Mart at the moment.
COWS
Good strong trade for all cows again this week. Store cows – 400 to 550kgs – making from €1.47 per kilo to €1.00 per kilo. Heavier cows (550kgs+) making from €1.55 per kilo up to €2.00 per kilo. Lim 685kg €1,340. Fr. 800kg €1,390, Fr. 590kg €930.
BULLOCKS
Very strong trade for all bullocks again this week.
Light stores – under 350kgs - made from €1.65 per kilo for plain Friesians up to €3.22 for continental bullocks. With AA/Her types making from €2.10 per kilo up to €2.54 per kilo.
Medium stores - 350kgs to 500kgs – starting at €1.60 for Fr up to €2.69 per kilo for continentals. AA/Her bullocks made from €2.10 up to €2.50 per kilo.
Fwd. stores - 500 to 600kgs - The plainer FR started at €1.65 per kilo up to €2.40 per kilo for AA. Heavy Blks (600kgs +) - Good demand for heavy bullocks making from €2.00 up to €2.30 per kilo.

HEIFERS
Very lively trade for heifers. Store heifers - under 400kgs - made from €2.02 up to €2.83 per kilo. AA/Her averaged at €2.12 per kilo.
Butchers heifers (400kgs +) - these type heifers made from €2.05 up to €2.63 per kilo, with AA/Her averaging at €2.14 per kilo.

CALF SALE
Strong demand for all calves. Her/AA bulls €150 to €350. Heifers €80 to €215.
