Doneraile Arts Fest looking for local artists

-

Doneraile Arts Festival is making an open call to artists to display their artwork in the shop windows of Doneraile for the month of August. There is space for both adults and children to showcase their creativity to the public, and everyone is invited to submit their creations for display up to and over the festival weekend.

Adult artists can submit their works to the Doneraile Arts Festival organisers through their Facebook page until 3rd August. Finished works will be displayed in shop and business windows all over Doneraile town to celebrate the festival over the weekend of August 12th - 15th.

Kids will be represented with the help of local business Two Green Witches, who are providing ‘fairy door packs’ to parents and guardians from Great ARTitude. The kids can decorate their fairy door in whatever way they wish, and have their work publicly displayed in town.

Anne- Marie Simpson, co-owner of the business, explained why they got involved.

“We had great success last year with pumpkin carving and thought we’d try something bigger with fairy doors. We are going to display the decorated fairy doors along the Main Street, in shop windows and through the arch to Doneraile Park. We are hoping that the kids will enjoy decorating and coming along to see the display during the weekend of the 12th August.”

The works will join the ‘ Art for Dogs’, an eye-level display of paintings for our canine critics currently on display in Fishpond Lane in the town.

DAFT Committee Chairperson Mary St Leger, thanked all the sponsors of this year’s festival, and expressed appreciation particularly as fundraising was not possible owing to lockdown restrictions.

“We have been very fortunate in that DAFT has been offered great support by Cork County Council, and in particular Arts Officer Mr Ian McDonagh. We would also like to thank Creative Ireland and Fermoy Municipal Council. We are also delighted to have received generous sponsorship from Mallow Credit Union, Cavanagh’s of Charleville, The two Green Witches and GREAT Artitude. Ian McDonagh, Arts Officer with Cork County Council, encouraged all artists to get in contact to showcase their work and brighten up Doneraile.

The festival takes place from August 12th to 15th and promises to make a Monet out of any amateur, with over 15 workshops and events taking place around the village. For details on submitting your artwork, or the festival schedule, please visit the website at doneraileartfest.com.
