Mr Neil Carey’s President’s Prize

Despite the poor weather, a great weekend was had at the President’s Prize held between the 9th to 11th of July.

The playoff was held on last Sunday evening between the showers. In the ladies section Kathleen Alton was our winner for the second year running. Great shooting Kathleen. In second place was Julie Connolly. The gross prize went to Eleanor Carroll, 3rd to Susan Carey and 4th was Margaret Costello. The prize for leading ladies’ qualifier was won by Ann O’Brien.

The senior ladies’ prize was won by Maureen McEvoy. Well done ladies. Excellent golf.

In the men’s section Evan Barrett was 1st, Ian Halpin was 2nd. The gross prize went to Darren Sweeney playing off plus 2 and 3rd was won by Pat Slattery. 4th went to our men’s captain Francis McCarthy. The leading men’s qualifier prize was won by Marcus Magee. The men’s seniors prize was won by Jim Cantwell and the junior prize by Dylan Butler.

The guest’s prize was picked up by Ger Ward. Ger had a hole in 1 on the 16th hole. Our past presidents prize went to Imelda Fitzpatric­k. Well done to everyone and thanks to all who made it an enjoyable weekend.

MEN’S TED LINEHAN MEMORIAL COMPETITIO­N RESULTS

Thanks to all who turned out in great numbers for our Ted Lenihan Memorial competitio­n held Friday, 2nd to Sunday, 4th July. Ted was our men’s captain in 2005. Great to see so many take to the fairways in his memory. Overall winner: Brian Sweeney (14) 44ps (CB). Category 1 winner: Patrick Houlihan (8) 39pts (CB). Category 2 winner: Paddy Farrell (10) 41pts (Back 9). Category 3 winner: Pat Slattery (18) 44pts.

BARTON SHIELD

Well done to our Barton Shield team who overcame Clonmel last Friday night, June 9th. The away pairing was made up of Ian Halpin and Darren Sweeney, while the home game was played by Gary Morrison and Declan Walsh. The lads will play Thurles in the next round with the date TBC.

LADIES

It is lovely to report another week of great golf and results for the ladies.

AUSTRALIAN SPOONS

The Australian Spoons scotch foursomes was played over a week and the result was very tight. It is wonderful that clubs can put forward two pairs this year for the regional final in Tipperary Golf Club on Monday, 19th July.

Representi­ng Cahir Park will be Anne Fahy and Margaret Costello who played off H/C 39 and returned 47 pts net winning on countback from sisters, Michelle and Emma Keating H/C 19 with 47 pts net and a fantastic 28 pts Gross. Best wishes to both pairs for an enjoyable and successful day.

SENIOR LADIES

The past two weeks of Tuesday ladies seniors 12 Hole Champagne Scrambles have been very exciting. Convenor, Margaret devises great rules and arranges varied playing partners.

On Tuesday, 29th June, the fourball scramble was won by Ann McLaughlin, Jo Fahy, Geraldine Cooney and Fiona Rea with 85pts having scored birdies and many pars. In second place were Imelda Buckley, Eleanor Cummins, Catherine McMahon and Ann Mulcahy who scored 81pts.

Tuesday, 6th July was a Three Ball Champagne Scramble with a prize from president Neil Carey for the individual Best Score. Team first Prize went to Maureen McEvoy, Noreen Hally and Marie Devitt with 72pts. Second Team: Fiona Rea, Mary Kenrick and Rosemary O’Donnell with 70pts and Third Team: Mag Tobin, Jo Fahy and Eleanor Cummins 65 pts C/B.

The senior ladies’ Presidents Prize was won by Maureen McEvoy, who made a fantastic personal contributi­on of 36pts to her team. Well done Maureen and congratula­tions!

Thursday, 8th July, Ladies 18 Hole S/F GOY 3: Our Weekly competitio­n was a close fought affair. Three Ladies came in with 38pts net and on countback, delighted to report the winner was Claire Neligan with Mary Cotter in second place and Maureen McEvoy in third place. Well done, ladies.
