CLONMEL OIL SENIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE Ballyporeen 2-9 Ardfinnan 0-11

Our senior football team continued its winning form with a good victory over Ardfinnan last Wednesday evening in Clogheen in the Clonmel Oil Senior Football League.

The game was played in ideal conditions and the pitch was in great shape thanks to Bertie Sweeney and his dedicated volunteers. Ardfinnan were first to settle, and had three points on the scoreboard before we responded with a point from Tommy Sweeney and a well taken goal from the impressive John Martin. The first half remained nip and tuck as both sides exchanged points, John Martin helped himself to two more points before the break and the hard working Fionan O’Sullivan and John O’Callaghan added a point a piece to leave us a point to the good at half time. 1-5 to 0-7.

Ballyporeen restricted Ardfinnan to only four points in the second half thanks to some very good defensive play, and two excellent saves from young Kieran Macken in goal. John Martin struck a cracker of a goal to put us in control and also kicked over two further points to bring his total to 2-4 for the evening. Fionan O’Sullivan rounded off the scoring with two more points to give us the win on a score-line of 2-9 to 0-11 We will have played Clonmel Commercials by the time this goes to press, and we are down to play Aherlow this Sunday at 12pm in Lisvernane in the County Senior League.

MUNSTER SENIOR FOOTBALL

Unfortunately Tipperary surrendered their Munster senior football crown to the very impressive Kerry team last Saturday evening in Thurles. Ballyporeen man and captain played his part once again as he scored a goal and three points but Kerry were too strong on the night. Tipp fought bravely throughout and we will always have the memory of 2020 that will live long in our hearts and minds. Ballyporeen were also represented in the under 20 Tipperary football team which defeated Limerick last Wednesday evening. Young Christy English came on in the second half and played his part in this victory. Well done Christy.

We also have young Charlie English on the Under 17 Tipperary football panel which are due to play shortly. Charlie has been making a name for himself over the last few years and has caught the eye of the Tipperary selectors. Well done Charlie and keep up the good work.

CONDOLENCES

Our club would like to offer our deepest sympathy to all the Kelly family in Clonmel on the sad passing of Frankie. Frankie’s son Franny trained Ballyporeen football team for a number of years and always remained a good friend of the club. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all may Frankie rest in peace.
