JUNIOR B CAMOGIE LEAGUE St Catherine’s 4-11 Newtownshandrum 0-6

St Catherine’s were home to Newtownshandrum in the 3rd round of the junior B camogie league on Wednesday, July 7th last.

A determined Saints outfit got off to a flier with Annette Fitzgerald and Caoimhe Galvin (from a free) raising a white flag each within the first 2 minutes. Further points from Aideen Bolger and Caoimhe Galvin (from a 45) stretched the lead further before a free from Caoimhe went all the way to the net to put our girls 1-4 to no score up by the 1st water break.

St Catherine’s continued to pile on the pressure on the resumption with scores from Annette Fitzgerald (2-1), 2 points from Jill Hurley and a point each from Cliona Dunning and Caoimhe had the Saints completely in control at half time 3-9 to no score. With the Saints turning to face the breeze and all subs getting a run out in the 2nd half the balance of play shifted somewhat.

Our backs performed excellently with Hazel Sheehan and Clodagh Bolger very prominent and Aisling O’Keeffe and Cliona Dunning continuing to repulse many Newtown attacks. Newtown did succeed in scoring 6 points in the 2nd half to which our girls replied with a goal from Aine O’Regan and a point each for Caoimhe Galvin and Jill Hurley. Well done to all the girls on a much-improved performance which puts us in a good position for the next game away to Clonakilty.
