Hard luck U17 hurlers

-

Kildorrery played their hearts out against St Kevin’s (Milford/Ballyclogh/Castlemagner) in their 2nd league game and were unlucky to come up just short 3-13 to 3-16 in Milford on Wednesday evening, July 7th.

Luke started the scoring with point from a free, before they got 2 pts from play. Then Cian equalised with a good point from play. They got another from play, before Mathew got a point from play also. St Kevin’s then hit a purple patch scoring 4 points from play, before Luke hit back with a point from a free. At the water break we trailed 4 to 7 pts.

At the restart Luke scored a long range free to narrow the gap. Then Luke scored a great goal from a 21 yard free and a point from play. However they hit 1-2(goal being bit fortunate with deflection just taking it past Sean, who had a great game in goals). Cian replied with a great goal from play on the stroke of half time, to leave it 2-6 to 1-9.

At start of 2nd half Mathew got another good point from play, before they replied with a goal from play. Luke replied with another point from play, they got point from free and Luke got another great long range point from play. Then Luke got point from long range free. Exciting game! They then hit 1-3(0-1 from free) to lead 3-13 to 2-10 at the 2nd water break.

At the restart Mathew got point, followed by point for them and by a great goal from Mathew- from a sweet pass from Luke. Jack then got in on the act with 2 great points from play, to leave bare minimum between us 3-14 to 3-13. They got the last 2 points to just edge it.

This was a great game and well done to all the lads and the coaches.

Sean was very solid in goals with good quick puckouts. Brendan and Conor did mighty work in the full back line and Anthony, Eoin and Killian cleared ball all day from in front of them. Jack and Luke midfield worked tirelessly against good opposition. AJ, Mathew and Mark played very well in the half forward line and the full forward of Cian and Rian got and created great scores too. Corey and Tadhg made big contribution as well when introduced.

Team; Sean O’Grady, Brendan Collins, Conor Doolin, Killian Cronin, Eoin Hartnett, Anthony Nagle, Jack McNamara, Luke Keating, Mark Herbert, Mathew Fitzgibbon, AJ Coughlan, Cian Coughlan and Rian O’Briain. Subs introduced Corey O’Keefe and Tadhg Murphy.

The previous week the lads travelled to Ballyhea and after another great battle, were extremely unlucky to finish behind 3-11 to 2-16 at the final whistle - with a few questionable decisions going against them.

Team/scorers; Sean O’Grady, Brendan Collins, Conor Doolin, Mathew Fitzgibbon(0-1), Eoin Hartnett, Mark Herbert, Luke Keating(2-5), Jack McNamara(0-1), AJ Coughlan, Killian Cronin, Anthony Nagle(0-1), Cian Coughlan(1-3) and Rian O’Briain (no subs available).

Well done again lads for 2 very exciting games and keep up the good work.
