Huge effort from U16s

-

Ballycastle Gaels played our 2nd U16 league match against Abhainn Dalla last Thursday night, 8th July, in Ballyhooly.

Once again, Ballycastle worked very hard over the hour. Well done to Roisin Crowley on a penalty conversion that would be admired by many a Euros supporter. Abhainn Dalla (an amalgamation of Newmarket and Kanturk) was the better team on the night. Well done to all the Ballycastle girls who put in a huge effort and we look forward to a number of U16 league matches in the coming days against Mitchelstown, Castlemagner and Dromtariffe.

Ballycastle U16 team: Grainne Cody, Sarah O’Connell, Anna Hanrahan, Chloe Sweeney, Danielle Sheehan, Lucy Powell, Katie Cloosterin, Roisin Crowley, Eva Kennedy, Kate O’Riordan, Aoibheann Hess, Shauna Roche, Eabha O’Leary, Jasmine Sweeney, Eileen Sheehan, Joanne Cogan, Daire Power, Ellie Whelan and Aisling Kennedy.

UNDER 14 GIRLS

Our U14 team travelled to Kildorrery on Sunday, 11th July to play Kildorrery.

This match was played in wet July conditions and Kildorrery got off to a very good start. Ballycastle managed to improve in the 2nd and 3rd Quarter and contested well in many positions, but Kildorrery proved the stronger opposition overall. Well done to the Ballycastle girls, thanks to the U12s for supporting us on the pitch and we look forward to our next league fixtures which will take place in early August.

UNDER 13 BOYS HURLING

Our U13 Boys team played host to near neighbours Bride Rovers on Thursday week last in Ballyhooly. In a cracking contest against very strong opposition, our lads put in a great performance to win on a scoreline of 2-09 to 2-06. Well done to all involved.

UNDER 15 BOYS HURLING

Our Under 15 hurlers commenced their championship campaign in Castletownroche on Saturday last, with Kilshannig providing the opposition in the first of the round robin games. Our lads played well on the day, but had to give way to the visitors who emerged victorious on a scoreline of 1-17 to 0-05.

UNDER 12 BOYS FOOTBALL

The Under 12s played host to Fermoy in Ballyhooly on Monday night. This was a very good contest and credit to our lads who emerged with a hard fought victory on a scoreline of 5-09 to 3-07.

UNDER 17 BOYS HURLING

Our Under 17 hurlers have been busy preparing for the round robin phase of the championship. However, through no fault of their own, they have yet to see action, with both Brian Dillon’s and St Vincent’s being unable to field.

The next game will be in a few weeks and in the meantime, the focus shifts to the Under 18 age grade.
