Synergy Credit Union Bob Burke 4 mile road race

-

Grange Fermoy AC is delighted to be hosting our annual 4-mile Bob Burke road race on 25th July, this year proudly sponsored by Synergy Credit Union.

As we expected, the race sold out within a matter of two days, and because of the Athletics Ireland permit, we were only allowed to accept 200 entries. Nevertheless, it’s a good sign that maybe the road running scene is getting back to normal, as there are quite a few races on offer at the moment. Our race will have quite a few elite athletes competing, who were invited from various clubs, and who ran with us last year in our elite race. We are looking forward to a great morning’s running on the 25th.

OTHER RACES

Many of our athletes have taken part in races recently. Firstly, 17 year old Kevin Clancy and his school friend Ross travelled to Killock in June to compete in the St Cocas AC 5K Road Race. Kevin has been in the club nearly two years now and has been attending the speed sessions every week making great progress. Unfortunately, Kevin broke his femur last January, which was a big blow for him. Despite this set back, he gave himself plenty time before lacing the running shoes again and has made such a great recovery! In his race at Killock he crossed the line in a super time of 18.43!

On 28th June the second race in the IMRA calendar took place and this was the 4-mile trail race in Corrin, a very familiar place to all of us. However the route was quite different from the route we usually follow and included very sharp climbs.

Approximately 102 competitors turned out for this race, and Grange Fermoy AC had six brave members, all of whom did really well, as follows: Ashleigh Byrne who was the 3rd lady overall; Michael Lyons was 7th overall in 29.56; 17th was Conor Bartley 32.17; 25th Peter O’Brien 34.03; 34th Ashleigh Byrne 35.39; 68th Kenneth Power 40.56; 91st Maurice Tobin 49.36.

Also, well done to Angela O Mahony and Maggie Dunne who headed off to Clare to compete in the Summer Solstice 10km Race. Some of our runners had a great weekend up in Kildare for the annual Kildare Thoroughbred Races 2021. In the half marathon we had Ellen Hanley finishing in 1.38.34, Martin Healey in 2.57.52, and Mary Clare Healy 2.12.05. Marina Seymour and Geraldine Hartnett both competed in the 5km race, finishing in great times.
