JUNIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

A very young team took on Fermoy last Friday night in Junior B Football Championship. With a number of eligible players unavailable due to injury or work commitments it is a good sign of the club to be in a position to field a second team. The experienced Kevin Kiely kicked our first point after 5 minutes and while Fermoy kicked a few scores, a couple of points from Dan Roche, either side of a free from Kevin, left us trailing at the waterbreak. A Fermoy goal against the run of play being the difference. Dan, Seamus Roche and Kevin all kicked further points before halftime to leave us trailing on a score of 0-7 to 1-5 at the short whistle.

A strong second half performance saw us outscore the opposition by 6 points to 1. With John Roche’s kickouts regularly finding Eoin and Emmet in the middle of the field, we were well on top, and all our defenders were forcing Fermoy into making mistakes. Our captain Cian O’Mahony got a point after 6 minutes of the half before Kevin added 2 more, with one from a free. All of the substitutions are having an impact, and this young squad will improve with more game time. Emmet was rewarded with a point on 17 minutes. While Kevin may have missed a penalty with 5 minutes to go he did have the final say with a pointed free on 28 minutes.

No doubt the selectors will be looking at some of these players making the step up to Junior A as the summer progresses. In all a very positive performance and all players made valuable contributions throughout the game.

LOTTO

There was no winner of the lotto last Friday night and the Jackpot is now €5,200. The numbers drawn were 23, 27 and 38. The 5 lucky dip winners of €20 each were Brendan McCarthy, Aobhaoin Dorgan, Majella O’Connell, Kevin Crowley and Barry McCarthy. With the re-opening of the country this would be a nice time to be a winner!

Any profits made on sale of lotto tickets goes towards the upkeep of the facilities. And remember if you are not in you cannot win! Due to current restrictions we would encourage as many as possible to use the online facility at Clubforce; alternatively, tickets can be purchased in the shop or your usual seller. A big thank you to all who continue to support the lotto.

JUVENILE GAA

There is plenty of action happening with for our younger member in hurling, football and LGFA through our Ballyhooly and Ballycastle juvenile sections. Can we ask that all supporters continue to follow the Covid guidelines? The club shop is also open on Mondays from 7pm. A big thank you to all involved with last week’s Cul Camp, and with 200 children participating there was a lot of work done by the organizing group led by Kevin Cogan in overseeing the safety and well being of all, while at the same team providing some coaching and teaching the children new skills.

COVID

With the weather hopefully improving, can we ask that all our members and our community please continue to follow the guidelines set out and keep Ballyhooly and the community at large a safe place to live. With all teams in all age groups now back on the pitch and training, can we ask that people remain vigilant in the fight against Covid. Can we ask that everyone using our facilities to continue to follow HSE and Government Guidelines around the return to play.

Members of our club will continue to monitor the activities in the community field and ask everyone young and old to follow the guidelines. We all want to be Covid free and back out playing our national games as soon as possible and want all our friends and relatives to be able to share in the enjoyment that this brings.

MAIN CLUB SPONSORS

We have joint sponsors, Ballyhooly Homes and Quintas, please support if you can. In these difficult times it is great to have this support from our sponsors.
