Another busy cycling weekend
This weekend is another busy one for the Fermoy cyclists, with the youth cyclists having a two day race organised by Newcastle West Cycling Club and for the older cyclists, the Collins Cycling Centre will be holding the Denis Kennedy Memorial Races on Sunday at Ardmoyle East, Co. Tipperary. The youth two day will be based at Tournafulla, Co. Limerick and will provide two days of hard racing for the young cyclists who have been very busy lately.
In the U16 grade, Liam O’Brien has been out of action due to injury lately and planned to resume racing last Saturday in the Munster time trial championships in Tipperaray. However he was feeling unwell that morning and didn’t start. He was in better form that evening and finished third in the Robinstown road race in Co Meath. He also competed at Moynalty on Sunday, where he finished 9th. His younger brother Shane, who competes in the U12 grade, had a number of successful outings in recent time, finishing 4th in the Munster Youth League race in Newcastle West, following by 4th in the league race in Killarney. He then took first place in the Munster Time Trial Championship and followed that with 2nd place at Robinstown and 6th at Moynalty to finish up a busy few days of racing.
In the senior grade, Stephen McGrath plans a comeback to racing this Sunday at the Collins Cycle Centre race in Tipperary, after being out of action due to a crash while racing at Mondello Park recently. His young son Max travelled to Limerick on Sunday last for the Greenmount circuit races and took 5th place in the U10 race.
