Over 61,000 students received their Leaving Cert results on Friday last, with local schools excelling and a number of students achieving the maximum points available. ST COLMAN’S ‘VERY HAPPY’
In St Colman’s College in Fermoy, principal Veronica O’Donoghue said that teachers and students were also ‘very happy’ with the results seen in such a tough year.
“It was excellent, the results were really, really good. A lot of the boys worked very hard and those who did saw the results.
“We had an outstanding group of boys and an outstanding group of teachers too. The boys showed a lot of resilience and did it with such humour,” Principal O’Donoghue said.
While students in St Colman’s College also could not collect results on the school campus this year, many students were in touch with the school during the day to share the news of their Leaving Cert results.
“They were absolutely outstanding. We got a lot of calls and texts and emails telling us how they got on,” Ms O’Donoghue added.
‘DELIGHTED’ IN COLAISTE
In Coláiste an Chraoibhín, acting principal Rose Desmond said that the school was ‘delighted’ for the LCA and Leaving Certificate students who received results on Friday.
“We are proud of the fantastic results achieved by the students and wish them every success and happiness for the future,” Ms Desmond said.
Leaving Certificate results for 2021 were issued directly to candidates through the Candidate Self Service Portal on Friday last, meaning that students were not on site to collect results.
This year, students had the option to sit the traditional written exams or to opt to receive accredited grades.
Acting Principal Rose Desmond congratulates the efforts of both staff and students on their ‘outstanding achievements’ as she said students and teachers worked very hard under difficult circumstances in order to complete the Leaving Cert and the LCA.
With CAO offers released on Tuesday last, Ms Desmond was amongst the principals who noted that for students intending to go on to third-level education, CAO offers is often an even bigger day than results day. Speaking with TheAvondhu on Tuesday morning, Ms Desmond said: “I have no doubt when the CAO offers come out students will be dropping in and phoning us with for guidance and advice”.
HARDWORKING GROUP AT LORETO
Results day was a bright one for Loreto students in Fermoy and the day brought with it great joy and happiness across the board.
According to principal Orla Forde, pupils of the school accessed their results online at home from 10am, however, students were invited into the school if they wished to speak to members of the school guidance team.
Four pupils at Loreto scored the maximum number of points available, while three students scored 613 points.
“The Leaving Cert cohort of 2021 were an incredibly hardworking group, who managed to persevere and take on all challenges that crossed their paths.
“Online teaching, blended learning and copious revision tasks were all standard fare for this diligent group. We wish them well in everything they undertake,” a spokesperson for the school said.
CBS DEMONSTRATE A COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION
CBS Mitchelstown commended their students’ commitment to their education against a backdrop of a pandemic, mask-wearing, lockdowns and a shift to online learning. Following an unprecedented two years in education, principal Mary Hannon expressed her pride in the class of 2021.
“We are very proud of this year’s Leaving Certificate class, who showed great maturity and cooperation with the school during difficult times.”
She also paid tribute to the teachers and staff of CBS, who went to great lengths to help the class achieve their potential. This year’s Leaving Certificate class exceeded the national averages with their results. Almost 85% of CBS students achieved 350 points or more, where the national average is 67%.
Ms Hannon added that beyond their academic achievements, these students demonstrated great leadership, spearheading a number of community initiatives for good causes during their years in the school.
100% OF COLÁISTE LCA STUDENTS RECEIVE ‘DISTINCTION’
Coláiste Fionnchua in Mitchelstown gave a hearty congratulations to all their Leaving Certificate and Leaving Certificate Applied students of 2021, as the traditional Leaving Certificate results day was replaced with congratulatory phone calls to students and their parents.
The school expressed their pride in all their students, and recognised the adversity that this group of students have had to deal with and overcome during the past two years. A commendable result was achieved by the Leaving Certificate Applied students, as all of the students achieved a ‘Distinction’, the highest mark awarded in the LCA.
In the Leaving Certificate exams, over 30% of Coláiste Fionnchua students received over 500 points.
“They dealt with the challenges of online learning and the curtailment of their time in school exceptionally well. They worked tirelessly with their teachers over the two years, and this was reflected in their final results,” a school spokesperson said.
“We are very proud of all our students and their results reflect the work and effort they have put in throughout their time with us. We would also like to thank their parents who played the most important role in helping these young adults achieve their goals.”
PRESENTATION ‘THRILLED’ FOR THEIR STUDENTS
Lorraine O’Keeffe, principal of Presentation Secondary School, Mitchelstown, praised the students of 2021 for their hard work and commitment over the last year.
“It has been a long and challenging number of months for our Leaving Certificate class of 2021, but I know students are relieved the process has now concluded and they can look forward to a new adventure, whether to third level college, apprenticeship or the working work.
“We are thrilled for the students and the results they have each received. Our top student was Cora O’Sullivan, who achieved the maximum number of 625 points, and over 38% of our students received in excess of 500 points.”
Ms O’Keeffe hoped that as the CAO offers had been made, that Presentation students would be satisfied and wished them every success in their future lives. She also thanked all the members of the school community, “from the teaching staff, to the students’ parents for supporting them, and the students themselves who showed great resilience this year.
“The lessons they learned about dealing with adversity and managing the situation is the real test, and that they have all passed with flying colours.”
‘ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED’ IN BLACKWATER
In Blackwater Community School, Lismore, last year, one student achieved eight H1s, with a positive trend continuing this year. Principal Denis Ring said that the school is ‘absolutely delighted’ with the results achieved by students.
“It was different in a sense because we didn’t have the students here to collect their results, but we were in contact with them through the day and we’ve had an awful lot of positive feedback from parents and students,” he said.
According to principal Ring, a number of students at the school achieved close to maximum points this year, while the vast majority of students achieved 500 points or more.
“We are very excited with the number of students that achieved in excess of 600 points and we are confident in the range of professions that our students will be going into. Students felt that the results reflected their ability and we’re absolutely delighted. It’s remarkable,” principal Ring added.
