Fermoy Christmas Lights sponsorship appeal

- KATIE GLAVIN

The upcoming Fermoy Christmas Lights switch-on, taking place at 6.30pm on Friday, November 26 is fast approaching, as the Fermoy Christmas Lights Committee continue their appeal for sponsorship and donations. Speaking with TheAvondhu, committee member Jimmy Corcoran said that the committee is appealing to businesses, organisations, and individuals in Fermoy and surrounds to get on board with the initiative.

“Every year people come into the town to see the switch on from different villages and surrounding areas, and it would be great to see them helping out with the Christmas lights,” Mr Corcoran said.

This week, several local businesses gave sponsorship for the Christmas lights in the town.

Mike McCarthy of Mellerick’s Pharmacy, who have decorated their business windows ahead of the lightup, thanked the committee for their work and said that supporting the Fermoy Christmas lights is important to Mellerick’s Pharmacy.

“I’ve just taken over Mellerick’s myself from Orla Mellerick and I just want to continue on the Mellerick tradition of helping out the town and buying into it because the people of the town are very good to support Mellericks over the years and I hope they continue to support us going forward,” Mr McCarthy said.

Justin Hanley of Hanley’s newsagents said that they are looking forward to this year’s switch-on event in the town.

“I think it’s very important, particularly with everything that’s going on around us. It brightens up the place and really captures the town and the atmosphere. It’s the whole family element too and it stirs up a bit of festive spirit,” he said.

Barnes Jewellers, Fitzgerald’s Butchers, Jim Bermingham’s and Mostly Just €2 stores also sponsored the Fermoy Christmas Lights this week and were thanked by the Fermoy Christmas Lights Committee for their contributions.

Everyone who contributed to the annual fundraiser was thanked by the Fermoy Christmas Lights Committee. For more information visit Fermoy Christmas Lights on social media @FermoyChristmasLights.
