What cost a lot, didn’t cost a single thought!

- KATIE GLAVIN

Two large black bin bags, filled with empty glass bottles, were discovered dumped by the main road in Fermoy this week.

On the Cork Road, the bags were dumped at the steps of McDonagh Terrace, located on the famine relief scheme wall located directly across from Chapel Square.

Empty glass bottles from alcoholic drinks were found spilling from the bags, with some bottled broken.

“They’re on the main road, just dumped. People can’t even get in and out there properly,” an individual said.

The bags filled with discarded bottles were discovered on Monday morning, suggesting that a party may have been held the night previous, resulting in the large quantity of bottles.

Noting the price of alcohol, the individual who spoke to TheAvondhu noted that what must have cost a lot of money, didn’t cost the perpetrators a single thought when disposing of the easily recyclable bottles.

COUNCIL COLLECT

Bags were collected by Cork County Council that same day after the dumping incident was reported, a Cork County Council spokesperson confirmed.

“Cork County Council can confirm that this was reported on Monday morning. The bags were collected by Council staff the same day and the matter is currently under investigation,” the spokesperson said.
