Geoff Gould and Blood In The Alley Theatre Company who brought us the Blackwater Fit-Ups, are delighted to announce a series of events in The Palace Theatre, Fermoy from this Sunday, December 5 to Sunday, December 12.

CLASSICAL CHRISTMAS

The series of events is a mix of music, workshops and live theatre and kicks off on Sunday with two shows featuring Slovakian-born violinist Vladimir Jablokov who came to Ireland in 2004, aged 19. When his money ran out, he began busking on the streets and a few years later went on to perform his own shows. He is really making a name for himself and is already booked for his Viennese Christmas Concert in the 3 Arena in December 2022. But now, well in advance of that, you can see him perform his Classical Christmas Concert in Fermoy on Sunday at 3pm and again at 8pm when he will be joined by accompanist Vincent Lynch.

Tickets for all shows during the week need to be pre-booked on 025-32042 and cost €15 each or €40 for a family of four (2 adults/2 children).

WORKSHOP

A workshop will be taking place from Monday to Wednesday on Oisin Flores Sweeney’s first play ‘A Difficult Decision’ involving Joan Sheehy, Seamus O’Rourke and Geoff Gould who will conclude their work with a public rehearsed reading on Wednesday at 5pm.

‘CHAROLAIS’

Wednesday, December 8th will bring Noni Stapleton and her award winning comedy ’Charolais’, to the stage of The Palace at 8pm. Written and performed by the woman herself, ‘Charolais’ is a surreal, black comedy of love, longing and one woman’s intense rivalry with a Charolais heifer.

Set on a farm in rural Ireland, Siobhan is forced to share the affections of her farmer boyfriend with the other women in his life – a sneering mother-in-law figure, and a sexy French cow. This is a muddy place of simmering desire, mixing the challenges of farming life and the joy of sex.

The winner of several awards including the Little Gem Award (Dublin Fringe Festival), Best Monologuie Bouquet (Edinburgh Festival) and Stewart Parker Trust Award.

‘THE SAND PARK’

‘The Sand Park’ written and performed by Seamus O’Rourke, is the sometimes hilarious account of how James Anthony Lowery, a man in his mid-fifties, came to terms with the death of his son, fifteen years ago and now more recently, his wife Rose.

It’s a play about rural Irish life and the way we cope with the inevitable, it’s a play about how life and death and humour and love and sadness all live in the same house together… and then a strange thing happens…

Thursday night, December 9 at 8pm.

‘KRAPP’S LAST TAPE’

‘Krapp’s Last Tape’ is one of Samuel Beckett’s most iconic plays. First produced in 1958 it is one of the earliest one-man plays produced for the stage and is considered by many critics to be Beckett’s most perfect piece of writing for the theatre. This new production, directed by Geoff Gould and featuring Denis Conway, embraces the elements of clown white remaining faithful to the powerful text.

See it on Friday night, (10th) at 8pm.

‘THE HANDY MAN’

Another great piece from the pen of Seamus O’Rourke and performed by the man himself on Sunday night, it brings us into the life of Hugh Spotten, the local handyman. He is about to receive an award for his contribution to the community - but all is not as it seems in a small town, falling in on itself. O’Rourke explores friendship, relationships and how best to get noticed on your last day. ‘The Handyman’ is hilariously funny, yet a poignant poetic look at smalltown life in rural Ireland.

Sunday 8pm.
