Two great shows for Kilworth
Kilworth Community Centre will play host to some of the country’s top performers over the next week or so. While the community centre has a capacity to hold 170 patrons, tickets for both these shows are limited to a maximum of just 70 to facilitate social distancing. Patrons will need to produce their Covid certs and masks will be mandatory.
The first of these takes place on Thursday night next (9th) and brings fiddle supremo Frankie Gavin (of De Dannan fame) back to the village, this time joined by one of the most respected box players in the country - one Martín O’Connor. The coming together of these two greats of trad music, promises to be an unforgettable evening’s entertainment. They will be joined by Catherine McHugh on keyboards.
Then on Sunday afternoon at 3pm, singer, songwriter and actress - the inimitable Mary Coughlan will take to the Kilworth stage. Mary Coughlan needs little or no introduction to Kilworth audiences as she has played the Arts Centre several times in the past.
Her debut album ‘Tired and Emotional’ sold a massive 100,000 copies in Ireland. Mismanagement of her career however during this period saw her lose her car, house, and recording contract with Warner Music. Mary has spoken about the role of women in Irish society and in September 2017, she walked out of an interview with Newstalk presenter George Hook in response to comments made by the presenter about rape victims.
More recently, she received a lifetime achievement award in 2020 by the Mayor of Galway in recognition of her impact on the cultural life of the city.
For some great music mixed including songs from her most recent release ‘Life Stories’, mixed with chat and banter, book your ticket now.
The shows, presented by the Village Arts Centre, are made possible with the support of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports & Media, the Arts Council and Cork County Council’s Arts Department.
Booking for both shows essential - tickets (€25) available in TheAvondhu offices in Fermoy (025-32227) and Mitchelstown (02524451) or you can call or text 087-6492514.
