The commercial axis for The Avondhu newspaper revolves around Mitchelstown and Fermoy. As the region’s largest centres of population, they are home to the biggest numbers of small, medium and large scale businesses.
MITCHELSTOWN – CONTINUING TO MAKE ITS MARK
This week our festive focus is on Mitchelstown. Like every rural town, it’s been through its fair share in the last 17 or 18 months, however, there’s every reason to believe it will emerge in pretty good shape. In a way the severe restrictions that the country had to endure during a lot of 2021, especially when it came to limiting travel, helped a significant percentage of local businesses.
With things ‘ reasonably normal’ at the moment, it’s vital to reinforce the importance of sustaining our local economy.
HAMMERING HOME THE MESSAGE
At the switching on of the Christmas lights in Mitchelstown recently, MC and serial entrepreneur, Maurice Walsh, hammered home the ‘support Mitchelstown’ message.
“I would appeal to every man, woman and child to really get behind our great town this Christmas. We have some brilliant shops and now is the time to show real patriotism by purchasing from local outlets – by going down this road, we’re also protecting local jobs,” he said.
A SENSE OF PRIDE
With the famous ‘Blackthorns’ in county final football action this weekend, there’s a tremendous feel-good factor as ‘Town seek to emulate what neighbours, Ballygiblin, did a couple of weeks ago. There’s no doubt the success of local teams rubs off on the local populace, so here’s wishing the boys every good wish in Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday.
