WORLD LANGUAGES DAY 2021
Coláiste Fionnchua, Mitchelstown was a hive of activity this week with an array of events and activities taking place. We joined with 148 different schools from all over Ireland on November 22nd when we celebrated World Languages Day 2021.
Our TY students co-ordinated a variety of events for 1st year students. During the course of the day, they took part in a number of workshops, Kahoot quizzes, interactive discussions, dance competitions and a Continental breakfast! Our 1st years got the opportunity to take part in workshops such as Italian cuisine, Portuguese capoeira, Russian ballet and Polish, as well French, German, and Spanish workshops which were led by our own international students.
Thank you to our TY students who put so much
work into this day to ensure that it ran smoothly.
GEOGRAPHY WEEK
Last week also saw Geography Week take place in the school. Geography week celebrates the beauty and wonders of the natural world around us.
During the week, students made posters and took part in quizzes and competitions. They also took part in a photograph competition, where they were tasked with taking a photo of a geographic site of interest within 5km of their own home.
Congratulations to the winners of junior competition; Ben Donovan, Brianna Smith, and Gavin Joyce and the Senior competition; Aine Davern, Aoibhe O’Brien and Thomas Caldwell.
RHYTHM WORKSHOP
Transition Year students enjoyed away from the classroom last week when ‘Sound Out Rhythm’ came to the school and did a workshop on all the relevant dynamics required to be a drummer. Students were introduced to various percussion instruments such as drums, bodhrán, cajon, djembe, and snare drum. During the workshop, Conor, the instructor, covered elements of rhythm such as technique, creativity, time-keeping, listening skills and groove. At the end, students were asked to perform a classic piece of music utilising their new-found skills.
