OPERATION HOPE SHOEBOX APPEAL WITH KILDORRERY N.S.

- MARIAN ROCHE

The Team Hope Shoebox Appeal in Kildorrery NS was, for yet another year, a huge success, with 99 boxes collected from schoolkids to go to children who would otherwise not receive a gift this year.

The school undertake the drive every second year, with these special boxes including the four W’s for each receiving child: something for them to wash, to wear, to write, and to wow!

Rachel Kelly from Kildorrery NS said the children get a ‘great buzz’ from the biannual effort.

“We show the kids the videos from Operation Hope that show the receipients opening their presents, and it’s really lovely. It can be quite emotional! We had Pat the caretaker organising the collection this year. We’ve been doing the shoebox appeal for a number of years now, and there’s always a great buzz around the place for it.”

Since 2010, Team Hope have delivered over 2.1 million shoebox gifts to vulnerable children across the world. This year, their shoebox appeal has finished, but are still accepting donations to ‘build a box online’. Visit teamhope.ie for more information.
