Ballyduff players end season on a high
A stronghold of Gaelic games for generations, Ballyduff Upper has always done a great job promoting hurling and football. Side by side with the men are the village’s talented women, who excel at ladies football and camogie.
Despite the restrictions of Covid, both Ballyduff Upper Ladies Gaelic Football Club and Ballyduff Upper Camogie Club have had a very busy year.
An active underage structure has seen skill levels come on leaps and bounds. In addition to regular training and matches, both clubs have organised specialist training sessions, where invited coaches instruct young players.
The last of these sessions took place last week and once again, there was great enthusiasm and interest. Stephen Bennett, Orlagh Farmer, Patrick Curran, Ciara O’Sullivan and Roisin Tobin are just some of the high profile coaches who’ve made their expertise available.
BIG DEMAND FOR NEW FACILITY
Progressive as always, Ballyduff Community Field is now home to a state-of-the-art AstroTurf facility, which is a massive bonus for all the clubs, especially during our typically bad winters. The girls were out in force for the last ‘Come And Try It’ initiative and to mark the occasion, lots of treats and goodies, as well as some very attractive prizes, were given away.
As 2021 comes to an end, ladies football and camogie looks to be on a firm footing in Ballyduff – while looking forward to Christmas, when everyone plans to take it easy, rest assured that come 2022, these active, eager and athletic women will be ready to go once again.
