MEN’S CLUB NEWS

The results of last weekend’s competition were not available by copy deadline this week but after a glorious autumn, winter conditions arrived with a bang brought on by a cold north wind with some unpleasant showers added to the mix. It will be interesting to see what impact this will have on the scores after the recent high levels of performance. The results of the previous weekend (19th, 20th and 21st November) open singles running from Friday through to Sunday are as follows - the winner was John Cotter (18.3) with a fine score of 35 points for the 15 holes. Richard Cahill (16) was in second place, unlucky to lose out on countback having also brought in 35 points for the 15 holes. The Cat A winner was Ger Harte on 32 points, taking the Cat B prize was Paudie Donegan on 35 points, and the Cat C winner was Michael O’Sullivan on 33 points.

As has been mentioned a number of times, one silver lining for the golf club from the ongoing Covid pandemic and associated restrictions was the influx of GAA (and many other sports) players from the area taking up the game. So after Ballygiblin’s historic win a couple of weeks ago, it is the turn of the footballers to attempt to bring another county title back to the town when they take on Iveleary in Páirc Uí Chaoimh next weekend. Best of luck to all involved.

SUPPORT OUR MANY LOCAL SPONSORS THIS CHRISTMAS

During another difficult year for everyone our many local sponsors continued to support our club competitions. We ask all our members to remember to return that support during the lead up to Christmas. The list is too long to include here but we all know who these businesses are. We thank our many sponsors and wish you all a successful Christmas this year. The message to all our members is shop locally.

Golf related gifts and golf vouchers are available from Alan Hayes at the Golf Shop on Baldwin Street. Alan has been a great supporter and sponsor of club events since opening his business in Mitchelstown in recent years. Every golfer likes a golf related gift or voucher for Christmas and Alan is the man to talk to when it comes to shopping locally for golf related gifts this year.

The club is currently formalising the events calendar for next year. We have already taken a number of golf society bookings for 2022. We are now offering an excellent catering service at the club and we are geared up better than ever to look after the needs of societies on and off the course. If Mitchelstown’s superb golf course is on your list of “must play” courses for 2022 we look forward to hearing from you asap.
