Clashmore Ramblers v Kilworth Celtic FC U17s

Our U17 squad travelled up the N72 to clash with old WWEC rivals Clashmore Ramblers of Waterford. This was always set to be a hard-fought tussle, and so it proved to be on the day with fierce exchanges on the pitch and vocal support from the home crowd on the sidelines.

Kilworth Celtic started brightly, with probing runs, and solid defensive lines. We opened the scoring from the boot of Kajus Vaitkunas, and we had more than one chance to score again, but the a lapse in concentration saw the home side draw level. This spurred the sideline supporters into voice, and it became a colourful and sometimes unseemly spectacle as several players were shown yellow. We gave away possession cheaply when clearing the ball and suddenly it was 2-1 with 7 minutes to go.

Kilworth tried hard but it wasn’t meant to be today. We now turn our attention to giving Ramblers a similarly hot reception when they are on our turf next week. Good performance today from the entire KCFC team- no exceptions.

Bandon AFC v Kilworth Celtic FC U13 Girls

Kilworth travelled to Bandon in bitterly cold conditions, with Laura taking the captain’s armband for today’s match.

After a nervous Kilworth start, Bandon opened the scoring at the five minute mark with a fortunate goal after the ball was initially saved by Katie in goals. As the first half settled down, both teams created many chances, but a great defensive display from Kilworth meant Bandon were not able to add to their tally, and at the main break the score remained as a slight advantage to the home side.

Kilworth come out much improved in the second half, and it was unsurprising that Kilworth levelled matters with a well-worked strike from Una, with the Bandon keeper having little chance to keep the ball out of the back of the net. Other chances from Irina and Erin in particular meant that Kilworth could have pinched all three points, but it wasn’t to be. Bandon could also feel unlucky, as Katie kept their strikers at bay with a succession of great saves that belied the fact this was only her second ever start in goal. The final whistle called a halt to proceedings, and the teams shared the points in a 1-1 draw. Thanks to all players and parents who travelled to Bandon today.
