Munster medals for Mooreabbey men

-

After a welcomed two week break a trip to Clarecastle, Co Clare was on the cards and calling for Barry Hartnett, Tom Blackburn, Kevin Lenihan, Gerard Hanley, Willie O’Donoghue, Liam Lewis and Damien Holian on a chilly, foggy and damp Sunday morning. The event was the Munster Masters cross country.

At 1.30pm over 100 men took off from the start line like the charge of the light brigade. After two laps races positions were fairly well settled. In the individuals Tom took gold in his category, Willie O’Donoghue was 8th in his and Barry Hartnett finished 10th in his.

In the county section Tom Blackburn and Willie O’Donoghue teamed up with Peter Madden of Templemore and Eugene O’Keeffe of Carrick-on-Suir to scoop the bronze county medals. These results above we know are factual but other results are being looked into or disputed due to a change in representation on the day by the Munster board which hadn’t been cascaded to club level.

CLONAKILTY RACES

The Clonakilty Waterfront marathon, half marathon and 10k are fun filled races in the heart of West Cork. Organised and hosted by Clonakilty Waterfront marathon, in association with Clonakilty Road Runners AC.

The race itself offers stunning views of West Cork with the Waterfront Half Marathon starting and finishing at the Clonakilty Park Hotel. Athletes exited left out of the hotel grounds keeping straight through the main street of Clonakilty Town, the runners passed the Waterfront and the infamous ‘Whales Tail’ sculpture before making their way out on the stunning coastline of Inchydoney Road. The runners crossed the causeway onto Dunmore causeway up the infamous Twohigs Hill and on towards Ardfield.

Panoramic ocean views of Clonakilty Bay were taken in making their way down Duneen strand. Passing Dunmore Hotel, Springmount Cross and Clogheen Village were the last landmarks before taking the final right on the course heading back towards the Clonakilty Park Hotel to the finish line.
