U11 BOYS

Our U11 boys played Mallow away. The boys 14 strong team braved the 4 deg C temperature and the blustery wind on Saturday morning. We played 10-a-side, with every player rolling in and out over 4 quarters of 10 minutes. A super team effort with some fantastic plays resulting in six tries, scored by Will Howard, Eoin Luddy, Anthony Flynn, Rory McCarthy, Isaac Keneally and Jack Darrer-Dalton. Thanks to Mallow for hosting and to parents for travelling.

We are away to Old Christians on Saturday, December 4 at 10am.

U16 BOYS

On Saturday last we travelled to Carrick-on-Suir to take on the local team on a very dry but bracingly cold pitch. However, the nature of this performance put any thoughts of weather clean out of our minds as we recorded a fantastic victory, for which this group has been working so hard to achieve.

Although we were down a number of players, this did not matter one bit to those who played, such is the depth we now have in the squad. Our intentions were set out quite quickly with a well taken try out wide from our fullback Cian Coughlan on a pre-planned move. Great hands were shown by a number of players to move the ball quickly to Cian to use his pace to carry him over the line. Shortly afterwards we conceded what would turn out to be the home side’s only score in an unconverted try. We then came back in style when Diarmuid O’Brien powered past a number of defenders to cross the line.

After a period of sustained pressure in their 22, Andrew McEnaney spotted a gap in the defensive line to charge over for a great try, this score then gave us the confidence to go and build on it. Later Diarmuid added his second and then the score of the game came in the dying moments. We defended strongly, and from their attack from a lineout in our 22, after a number of phases, the ball was turned over brilliantly by Darragh Casey who popped a fantastic pass off the ground to Cian who beat no less than four defence players to score a length of the pitch try.

While a number of players were mentioned in this piece every single player put in a brilliant performance, this was a true team game and win. The additional work the players have been putting in over the past 4/6 weeks is really showing and confidence is up facing in to the next round of games.

The team was from; Mikey O’Brien, Dean Harris, Cian Coughlan (2 tries), Pol Rodes, Darragh Casey, Peter O’Keeffe, Lorcan Murray, Diarmuid O’Brien (2 tries, 4 conv), Gearoid Desmond, Andrew McEnaney (1 try), Conor Dooling, Eoghan Kelly, Dylan Spillane, Alex Velazquez, Ben Cotter, Josh Kearney, Jack Kelly. GIRLS U14 RUGBY FLOURISHING IN NORTH CORK

Mitchelstown/Mallow travelled to Kanturk, just 4 weeks after they had met in the return fixture where Kanturk had a big win. The girls have put in 4 weeks of very hard work travelling on alternate weeks to each venue.

They had a slow start but got into it and scored two great tries, but found themselves behind at half time. After the break, they limited the possession to Kanturk and played great rugby. They scored terrific tries with a hat truck from our own Aimee Williams. Thanks to Kanturk for hosting and for everyone for travelling. Final score 45-33. Our next fixture is next Saturday v Dolphin.

Congratulations to Áine Hoye and Amy van der Weff who have been included in a development squad recently. Good luck from all of the club members.
