Superb performance!

- CORK YOUTH LEAGUE St John Bosco 1 Fermoy 6

A superb team performance as a classy Fermoy see off a tough St John Bosco side away from home on Sunday last.

Fermoy started the game brightly and had numerous chances to take the lead but the ground conditions were making the finishing difficult. The home side were battling hard with both sides putting in plenty of tackles and it was the home side who took the lead with a ball over the top found their striker who finished to the bottom corner. Fermoy came back strong and within ten minutes had gone 2-1 up with goals from Seweryn Szostak and Rua Tobin Allen to lead at half-time.

In the second half Fermoy stepped up a gear and a dominant performance from everyone saw Fermoy go 3-1 up when Rua’s cross found the ever-ready Dylan O’Sullivan who hit the back of the net. The 4th came shortly after when right full back Lee Walsh arrived in the box to finish neatly to the bottom corner.

The fifth came as Calum’s corner found Sean Duffy whose header was on the way to the net but Cillian Fitzgerald made sure getting the final touch, the game was finished in style with a fabulous free kick from Ruan Cardosa. A great performance with six different players getting on the score sheet.

U14 DIVISION 1 Fermoy 3 Mayfield 1

The boys got back to winning way’s with a hard fought win over a very good Mayfield side.

Fermoy took the lead with a ball played through from Seaghan Whitmarsh found Cathal McCarthy who finished nicely to the bottom corner. The away side got back into the game 10 minutes later when we failed to clear the ball. A couple of fantastic saves from Rory Bratchford kept the game at 1-1 at half-time.

Fermoy started the brighter in the second half and took the lead when Calum’s cross was headed home by Killian O’Mahony. The final goal that secured all 3 points was scored when Killian returned the favour passing to Calum McCormack who made no mistake to give the home side the win. A solid around team performance and welldone boys.

U12 Girls Premier Division Mallow 0 Fermoy 2

Top of the table Fermoy travelled to take on second placed Mallow this afternoon for a top of the table clash.

Played in freezing conditions on Mallow’s fabulous astroturf pitch, it took the Fermoy girls a few minutes to get used to the conditions but when we did we played some fabulous football.

Mallow had plenty of possession over the hour but never really threatened the Fermoy goal, with the defence well marshalled by the outstanding Lilly O’Callaghan.

Fermoy’s opener came 20 mins into the first half and was worth waiting for! Our left winger Amyra Lavery collected the ball in the left back position following a Mallow cross and played a great ball up to Sarah O’Connor’s feet. Sarah took a great touch and played a brilliant ball out to the right for the lively Aideen Wall. Aideen full of running, took on the fullback and whipped in a great cross along the 6 yard box where Sarah had continued her run to hammer home from 6 yards. A really great goal.

Fermoy’s second came 10 mins from full time. A ball was played up to Sofie Doyle and following some great hold up play, she played in Amyra Lavery who made no mistake from close range. There were some great performances from the girls today but special mention much go to the selfless Aimee Kearney and rock solid Lilly O’Callaghan.

This win sees the girls continue their fantastic run of form and they face Springfield Ramblers next weekend.

The U11 girls won 7-5 on a cold but sunny Saturday morning. It was 2-1 to Riverstown B at half-time and the girls kicked on in the 2nd half to come back for the win. Great to see big numbers for this age group and all involved in the games. Scorers were Sofie Doyle, Niamh Collins, Katie McGann and Cliona Wall.
